This makes it easier for students to access and find. It also allows developers to build a higher quality app. The redesigned interface is more intuitive. However, the app is still a work in progress and will continue to be updated with new features like augmented reality. Students have found the new version more convenient and reliable for checking services like Moodle.

AU2Go Is Now a Downloadable App

The university’s Information Technology
Department has launched an improved AU2Go ap-
plication to kick off the new school year. AU2Go is a
convenient application that organizes all the services
from the university, making them easier to use in one
application. It also includes a new feature that allows
students to check their print balances.
“We completely rebuilt AU2Go from the
ground up as a native application,” said Scott Finkel-
stein, manager of Web Technologies for the IT De-
partment. “Instead of accessing it via a web browser,
the way AU2Go originally worked, it can be down-
loaded off the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store
(Android).
“Not only does this make the app easier for
students to find and download, but it gives us as de-
velopers a better toolset to build a higher quality app
that runs faster and is more robust.”
AU2Go has had major changes since it was
first launched as a web application. The app is now
much easier to access and students have a more con-
venient way of checking Moodle or shuttle schedules
and school events.
“AU2Go’s main advantage is that it is now a downloadable app,”
said Finkelstein. “This makes it much easier for students to find. Before,
when it was a web app, we had to explain that it was not downloadable
and you needed to view it in a web browser. That caused some confusion
since people just naturally expect to download apps from an app store.
We completely redesigned the user interface, making it more intuitive.”
However, the AU2Go app is still a work-
in-progress and will continue to be changed and
enhanced.
“The only real disadvantage is that Apple
sometimes takes about a week to make app updates
available, so if there is something that needs to be
fixed in the app, we have to submit it to Apple and
wait for them to make it available for everyone,”
stated Finkelstein.
Despite its disadvantages, students find the
application reliable and beneficial.
“I like it,” said Emily Moran, a junior com-
munications major. “This new version is much more
high-tech like the other apps I have. It makes it easy
to access Moodle, which I check from my phone
often. I think it’s well laid out and easy to navigate.”
“I like the new app; the web application was
very frustrating to deal with,” said Julien DellaPor-
ta, a senior and communications major. “It would
upload as a regular app in the webpage and then it
would crash very often. This downloadable version
seems to be reliable and quick because whenever
I need to access my email it uploads without any
complications.”
As the application continues to expand, new updates are to be
expected in the near future. Finkelstein said, “We plan to rebuild this in
a more advanced way than we previously could have imagined by using
exciting new technologies such as ‘augmented reality’.”
The AU2Go app can be downloaded and accessed through both
Wi-Fi and cellular connection.
Delphian Staff Wins Five Awards
From the Press Club of Long Island

The Delphian took home second place
in the category of Best College Newspa-
per at the Press Club of Long Island Media
Awards in June. This is a prestigious honor
as the Press Club of Long Island is a chapter
of the Society of Professional Journalists.
The Delphian staff shared the evening with
award-winning local newspaper, magazine,
TV, radio and Web journalists.
In addition, these staff members also
took home awards: first place, Alexa Froc-
caro, College Feature Story; second place,
Victoria Chiesa, College Sports Reporting;
third place, Rachel Voorhees, College Fea-
ture Story; and third place, John Franklin
for best College Newspaper Reporter.
We are proud of all of our staff mem-
bers and look forward to another award-
