The PTTI project – National Technology Transfer Initiative in Portugal - gathers Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), the Space Office of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) and the European Space Agency (ESA) for a collaboration with the general goal of strengthening the competitiveness of the Portuguese space industry by supporting and facilitating the transfer of space technologies to non-space markets.
Planetek Italia is an Italian Benefit Company established in 1994, which employs 100+ women and men, passionate and skilled in Geoinformatics, Space solutions, and Earth science.
We provide solutions to exploit the value of geospatial data through all phases of data life cycle. We operate in many application areas ranging from environmental and land monitoring to open-government and smart cities, and including defence and security, as well as Space exploration and EO satellite missions.
Systems Engineering (SE) is the set of processes and documentation required for successfully realising large-scale engineering projects, but the classical approach is not a good fit for software-intensive projects, especially when the needs of the different stakeholders are not fully known from the beginning, and requirement priorities might change. The SKA is the ultimate software-enabled telescope, with enormous amounts of computing hardware and software required to perform its data reduction. We give an overview of the system and software engineering processes in the SKA1 development, and the tension between classical and agile SE.

In this paper, a simulation of the Mathematical Model for Real-Time Satellite Launch Platform approach in
Mexico is presented. Mexico holds the fourth best place in the world for building a platform to launch space
satellites, since its geographic location is optimal for its construction. It is essential to have the Probabilistic
Failure Analysis in Space Systems Engineering from its design, in order to minimize risks and avoid any
possible catastrophe. The mathematical approach of Failure Analysis presented throughout this paper, is
complementary to the simulation results, previously obtained with Windchill Quality Software. The final results
were performed with the Failure Analysis through fault trees (FTA) by means of a probabilistic approach
Quantitative Mathematical Model. This is the first step to propose and build the first Satellite Launch Platform
in Mexico.

CORE BUSINESS SEGMENTS - Who We Are and What We Offer
Astrotech Space Operations (ASO) is the leading commercial supplier of satellite
launch processing services in the United States. ASO provides processing support for
government and commercial customers with their complex communication, Earth
observation and deep space satellites.
The foundation of Astrotech’s leadership position in the industry is a result of its significant
investment in specialized, ideally-located facilities. The Company’s full-service; state-
of-the-art facilities are configured to serve a variety of payloads and launch-vehicle
subassemblies. The facilities offer customers an alternative to using government-owned
processing locations. Featuring clean-room capabilities, hazardous and nonhazardous
material processing, flight-hardware and ground-support equipment storage, and office
accommodations for customers, Astrotech’s facilities become a seamless extension of the
spacecraft manufacturer’s operations near the launch pad. Astrotech’s capacity allows
for maximum flexibility in processing parallel missions and to accommodate schedule
changes.
Astrotech’s exclusive, turn-key approach to the total satellite life cycle leverages the
Company’s legacy in ground processing operations, and engineering and support
services. By offering the satellite customer mission design and planning, ground and
launch operations, and mission operations and end-user enhancement, ASO ensures

2. ACTIVE INITIATIVES - Enhancing Life on Earth
1st Detect Corporation began under a Space Act Agreement with NASA to delvelop
a miniature mass spectrometer to be used on the ISS. 1st Detect has developed a
revolutionary chemical detector based on an ion trap mass spectrometer. 1st Detect’s
proprietary ion trap technology leverages technology from the space program which
allows for the device’s portability, versatility, sensitivity, durability, high speed and low
cost. The 1st Detect Miniature Chemical Detector provides rapid substance reading,
capable of detecting residues and vapors from explosives, chemical warfare agents,
toxic chemicals, food and beverage contamination, illicit drugs and pollution. The device
has been awarded a Developmental Testing and Evaluation designation from the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security as a “promising anti-terrorism technology” and in
March 2009, 1st Detect was notified of a grant from the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction
Agency to promote development of the technology.
The core technology behind 1st Detect allows it to be used in a wide range of
applications. Combined with different sample collection systems, the 1st Detect Mini
Mass Spectrometer can be deployed for Security, Defense, Healthcare, Industrial Process
Control, Critical Infrastructure Monitoring, and First Responder Markets.
Astrogenetix, Incorporated was formed to commercialize biotechnology products
processed in the unique environment of microgravity. Through expertise gained by
sending more than 1,500 NASA science experiments into space, Astrogenetix is exclusively
positioned to help commercialize products derived from microgravity discoveries. We
offer a turn-key platform for pre-flight sample preparation, flight hardware, mission
planning and operations, crew training and certification processes needed within the
highly regulated and complex environment of manned space flight. Astrogenetix is one
of the first commercial entities to hold a Space Act Agreement with NASA for use of
the International Space Station (ISS), a designated U.S. National Laboratory, for research,
development and industrial processing purposes. This agreement, along with our
relationship with various universities and government agencies and departments, gives us
the ability to process valuable products in space to save lives on Earth.
