  1. Social Media 101 – title slide
  2. Gauge where you are at right now with social media comfort, use, and willingness.
  3. Starting with Facebook because it seems to be the most commonly used platform. Facebook: use a professional pic, enable security Many engaging industry related groups out there, but there are pros and cons.
  4. LinkedIn: again, use a pro pic, it's up to you if you want to be a LION - it has worked for me with some hiccups (block or unfollow and move on)
  5. Twitter: I love it for business, sliding into the DMs works!
  6. YouTube: A great way to organize safety videos for use in the classroom. Vimeo as well. I personally do not download and embed videos, but know people that do. If a classroom doesn't have wifi, I don't use the videos. Follow my channel and find some great channels with safety content from there!
  7. Deeper dive into the platforms -
  8. YouTube - the unlikely social media platform Story - Jamie in the WISE Retreat doing videos. I decided I would do at least one YouTube video per day at the PDC. (The Delegate Show, Swag Bag unpack, fire drill!) - Helped me with my speaking and training - Helped with overall confidence in public speaking and situations - I faked people out with my production value - I created custom training videos for clients!
  9. LinkedIn - yes, it's relevant - I've received new business from cold messages through LinkedIn - not mine, theirs! - It's where I have the most impressions and engagements.
  10. Facebook - 2nd most unlikely social media platform! I was very hesitant to use it... (blog post) - Now it's my social media grand central: schedule post, notification of posted post, then push to other networks in a way that makes sense to those networks. I rarely copy/paste my content across all platforms or use an aggregator like Hootsuite to automate my social media posts - each platform has it's own vibe. Often, a facebook post does not translate to LinkedIn, and a LinkedIn post doesn't translate to Twitter. Long form status updates are becoming more popular as well as live streams and videos.

  12. Twitter - my old favorite Organic build, and oops over 1000 followers!
  13. Instagram - not quite yet... - DMs = WISE fashion show items - Great way to keep in touch with my safety pro network (and their dogs, kids, and desserts)
  14. Howl at the Moon marketing here in San Antonio likes Canva too…
  15. Make sure you have a website, this is your business card. All social media posts point back to your website. Make sure people can easily contact you after looking at the website - it's like dating - looking for a style/mindset fit before contacting (swipe!)

  17. Now that you’re stoked, identify where you’re going to speak! Virtual, Local, Region, National, International
  18. What lessons can you apply to promote your upcoming speaking? Document the process Use social media to discuss the topic (commercials, teasers), engage with future audience and industry insiders, learn about applicable news right up to the minute you’re about to present (be relevant or die up here!) Practice speaking for larger events at smaller/local events. Selfie videos to practice (it’s up to you if you want to publish them)
  19. It’s a snowball! Once you put yourself out there, you’re seen, you can be recognized for the expert you are. People will call you, they will want your time. Choose carefully. Always read the transcript and approve before being featured on a site that is not your own. Sometimes payment doesn’t make sense, and exposure is big enough. Always make sure you’re attributed and linked to. Micro publishing to macro publishing (industry magazines, trade journals, guest blogs and interviews)
