Independence Day in Pakistan is celebrated on August 14th. The main ceremony takes place in Islamabad where national flags are raised at presidential and parliamentary buildings followed by the national anthem and speeches by leaders. Pakistanis celebrate by raising flags, parades, cultural events and patriotic songs. Pakistan gained independence from British rule in 1947 after the All India Muslim League was founded in 1906 seeking a separate Muslim state.
