Cost of CorrosionCost of Corrosion
 Min. cost of corrosion to Iranian industries is 8 times the national
development budget for 2017 (1395)
According to western sources, within a 10 year study time span on offshore
platforms incidents, 2313 accidents of hydrocarbon leaks into the open seas have
happened , majority of which has been because of neglecting importance of
corrosion management

What is Corrosion Management?
“Corrosion management is that part of the overall
management system, which is concerned with the
development, implementation, review and
maintenance of the corrosion policy.”... The corrosion
policy provides a structured framework for
identification of risks associated with corrosion, and
the development and operation of suitable risk control
measures.

What is Corrosion Management?
A corrosion management system (CMS) is a
documented set of processes and procedures
required for planning, executing, and continually
improving the ability of a company to manage
the threat of corrosion for existing and future
assets and asset systems

1.They are not for O&G industries ONLY. Other
industries may also have their own CM models.
2.They are not specific to one particular company or
oragnisation,
Corrosion Management ModelsCorrosion Management Models
Three Criteria of a CM model specifically
demanded by Iranian offshore O&G industries:
Criterion 1: Must see the continued need for training,
Criterion 2: Must be feasible (save time and cost of both corrosion
prevention and corrosion control),
Criterion 3: Must include the need for information sharing (to avoid
repetition and therefore apply feasible resources management)
Javaherdashti Model of Corrosion ManagementJavaherdashti Model of Corrosion Management
Javaherdashti CM model has been based on:
1)Many years of field experience in Iranian industries
and especially O&G&P (on-shore/off-shore)
2)Clear and close working knowledge of O&G&P
international industries (Australia, UK, USA, Qatar,
Malaysia)
3) Javaherdashti being the first pioneering corrosion
specialist who introduced the concept of corrosion
management into Iranian Industries more than 23 years
ago

Information Sharing
I. Corrosion is a very significant issue in Iranian O&G industry where due to
offshore conditions, it can have much more damaging impact on off-shore
assets than on-shore assets.
II. All Corrosion management (CM) models emphasise upon “Risk” of corrosion
III. CM models are not for O&G industries only, neither are they specific to a
certain company and/or organisatioion
IV. Iran’s O&G industry and particularly off-shore sector MUST have their own
Iranian CM model
V. Based on the criteria such as closely knowing Iranian and international
industries corrosion problems, “Javaherdashti CM model” was presented,
VI. Javaherdashti CM model has four phases and six steps especially designed
based on the needs of Iranian O&G industries.
