The ASCI investigated complaints against 279 advertisements in February 2020. Of these, 101 advertisements were withdrawn by advertisers. The remaining 178 advertisements were evaluated, and complaints against 171 were upheld. The majority of upheld complaints were in the education (77) and healthcare (59) sectors. Several advertisements made misleading claims about leadership positions or awards that were not adequately substantiated. Celebrity endorsements also failed to adhere to guidelines. Dangerous acts were depicted that could encourage unsafe behavior. The ASCI continues to educate advertisers on properly substantiating claims and following guidelines.
