ASAE wanted a mobile app that would give its staff—from basic to power users—access to member information wherever they were, on whatever device they were using. It teamed with a mobile development company, Radolo, to build a mobile layer that integrated seamlessly with the Aptify system. “We’ve got a wonderful platform in Aptify that houses all of our information about our members, it houses transactions, and we’re in the process of making it our platform of the future,” Reggie Henry, Chief Information Officer at ASAE, says. “We asked Radolo, ‘What kind of mobile layer might we put on top of it that would end up working alongside of the Aptify mobile platform to provide the best solution we could to our staff?’”

1. ASAE and Radolo were able to leverage
the technology already built into Aptify
Web, the Aptify browser-based access
point released in Fall 2013.
“ASAE was one of several clients to help
test Aptify Web. It was then we realized
we could utilize the platform and the
functionality built into it. We worked
with Radolo, and they helped us make
it mobile,” says Debbie Hanger, ASAE’s
Director of Database Administration.
The app’s intuitive interface offers users
an easy experience. “With the design of
the app,” Hanger says, “we built in stuff
people expect in a mobile device; when
you see an address, you click ‘map it,’
and it pulls up the member’s address in
the maps area. This feature helps staff
when they are meeting a member. When
you pull up a phone number, you click
it and get a prompt to call the member.
The same goes for email.
“Again, all the features people are so
used to doing via their device can be
done in the Aptify Web mobile app.”
From addresses and phone numbers to
orders and contacts, key to the usability of
the app was figuring out exactly what to
include and who would be using it. “We’re
probably going to add some other things,
like access to companies, but it’s decidedly
not all of Aptify,” Henry says. “It’s the things
that work best in a mobile context.”
Hanger believes the power in the app
comes from knowing exactly who would be
using it and providing whatever they would
need to best do their jobs. “We’re using
this for staff who are remote,” she says. “It’s
for staff who travel and staff working at or
attending an event. Everyone has a device,
and the app will allow them to quickly pull
up a record. And, since it’s using the Aptify
Web platform, they can just log in with
their existing credentials. They don’t need
another platform and they don’t need to
know another password.
“The other powerful thing here is really the
design. There’s no training. The interface
is so nice and clean and intuitive. We can
actually put this in anybody’s hands, and
they’re off and running.”
