The SRF logo features the Secretary bird
(Sagittarius serpentarius), looking up high, by
combining two elements; an array of five crest
feathers over a search icon portraying the head
and beak.
We draw from this logo the inspiration to aim
high and the motivation to work with SRF
members towards realizing the academic and
scientific potential of Sudan.

Researchers Foundation
๏ง We developed an online index for Sudanese researchers all over the world which complies all their
publications
๏ง We organized the SRF first scientific conference in 2017 which was hosted and co-sponsored by the Al-
Neelain University, Sudan
๏ง We signed an MOU with Al-Jezeirah University (one of the largest public universities in Sudan) on
developing a database for plants used in the pharmaceuticals industry
๏ง We developed a new and innovative model of learning, networking, and collaboration for our Sudanese
community through the utilization of Facebook groups. This was achieved when we launched
the โSudanese Researchers Initiativeโ (SRI) Facebook group back in 2009. The SRI is now the largest
gathering for Sudanese researchers with over half a million members (currently over 700,000 members
and growing at over 4% per month). Further, the SRI group has over 400,000 active members per month.
Through this group, we have conducted hundreds of online workshops, webinars, and online panel
discussions featuring highly reputable scientific figures.
๏ง In 2017, we hosted Prof. Martin Chalfie (Noble Prize Laureate 2009 in Chemistry) for a webinar on Green
Fluorescent Protein, in partnership with the TReND in Africa network. This webinar, along with the other
500+ webinars we conducted can be accessed in our YouTube Channel.

Our vision is to equip young and
budding Sudanese and African
scientists to compete up to
International standards by the
acquisition of core research
competencies and academic soft
skills. Hence, we fully understand
that we should take our fate into
our own hands.
SRF mission is to expand the
Foundation by utilizing the
Internet and social networking
platforms to collect, disseminate
and emphasize the Sudanese
researcher's participation, impact
and footprint in all fields of
scientific research.

In October 2009, Anwar Dafa-Alla & Ibrahim Musa won the best paper award at an international conference. The conversation between the small Sudanese researcherโs group at Chungbbuk National University in South Korea led to an important question:
Where are the Sudanese Researchers and where is their research output? Are there any solutions to our chronic problems?
Hence, the establishment of the Facebook group (Sudanese Researchers Initiative) in December 2009.
In 2015, we launched our first website.
In 2016, we restructured the initiative to the Sudanese Researchers Foundation.
The array of five feathers highlight the core academic values of integrity, freedom, quality, curiosity and innovation. SRF emphasizes the importance of mastering these values.
The search icon symbolizes the deep attention to details by a disciplined and inquisitive spirit in pursuit of knowledge. The Secretary bird is in constant search and its attentional resources are focused on it; a Sudanese researcherโs attentional resources focus at the questions they seek answers for.
Independence is a salient trait of the bird. It can not be domesticated; it defies any such attempts. Unbiased intellectual independence is a core quality of a successful scientist.
The bird reflects our Sudanism. It is free, independent, loyal, defiant and hard-working
It was founded on December 28, 2009, through the efforts of a small group of graduate students abroad and Sudanese researchers passionate about the impact of research in developing countries like Sudan, led by Dr. Anwar Dafallah.
