This painting was inspired by Mary Heilmann's work "Go ask Alice" and uses bright colors and different painting techniques to achieve an abstract style. Individual squares of various colors were painted with different brushstroke directions, such as diagonal green strokes and pink dabs, while paint was poured and splashed on top similarly to Heilmann's techniques to add energy and an abstract feel through the use of color and brushwork.

I used Mary’s painting “Go ask Alice” for inspiration. I also like bright colors like
Mrs heilmann it gives the picture some energy so that is why I decided to use the
colors I did. The parts of the painting that shows abstract are the individual
squares of different color. Each color was painting with a certain direction of paint
strokes. For example the green square was painted with a diagonal paint stroke
while the pink was painted with poking dabs of paint. The different stroke gives
the painting a feeling of being abstract. On the top of the painting I poured paint
and let some of the colors splash the painting similar to what Mary done in her
paintings as well.
