Erik Nemeth gave a presentation on cultural property and international security at the LAPD Ahmanson Recruit Training Center. He discussed how art and cultural artifacts are targeted for crimes such as looting and theft due to the high profits they can generate on the global art market. Nemeth also examined how conflicts like war and instability can threaten cultural sites and increase looting activities in countries like Iraq, Syria and Egypt. Protecting cultural property and preventing the illicit trafficking of art requires international cooperation between organizations like UNESCO, law enforcement and the art market.
