3. Steve Mills was born in
Boston, MA on March
28, 1959. He grew up on
Martha’s Vineyard, MA.
As a child, he preferred a
pencil to crayons in
order to get fine details.
He sold his first drawing
at the age of 11,
although he didn’t
pursue this career at first.
4. While studying to be a
musician and majoring
in meteorology, he paid
his college tuition by
painting yachts on the
docks of Menemsha on
Martha’s Vineyard.
5. Realizing this was not what he wanted to do
after all, he left school. A year later, he
resumed his education at Bridgewater State
College, majoring in art. It was there he finally
realized his gift, graduating magna cum laude.
He received his BA in Art in 1982.
6. Pennsylvania Landscape – Andrew Wyeth

Steve’s early paintings were influenced by Andrew Wyeth and
were mostly of landscapes. After seeing a show of the works of
Richard Estes, his interest was directed toward photorealism.
7. 1983 brought the huge success of his first solo show, selling 33 of his 35
paintings. 1989 began his successful relationship with Henoch Gallery in
New York. His works are still represented there today.
