1. ARTIST BIOGRAPY
RACHEL KAIMAN
After ten years of dance, acting and voice training Rachel made her professional debut at
17 as Maggie in A Chorus Line with Theatre Aquarius in her hometown of Hamilton,
Ontario Canada. She then proceeded to earn a B.F.A in Music Theatre at one of Canada’s
most esteemed Schools of Dramatic Art at The University of Windsor in Windsor,
Ontario. During her studies she performed the role of Hodel in Fiddler On The Roof,
Catherine in Pippin, Cinderella in Into The Woods, Dolly Trull in The Threepenny
Opera, Mary Brenham in Our Country’s Good, the Greek Chorus in The Trojan Women
and Macbeth. Immediately following graduation she played Rosalia and understudied
Maria in West Side Story with Theatre Under The Stars in Vancouver B.C. She continued
her career with appearances in Neil Simon’s Rumours and a successful run as Sister
Amnesia in Nunsense with Gryphon Theatre in Barrie, Ontario. Rachel originated the
role of Nightingale in The Nightingale at The Grand Theatre in London. It was
subsequently nominated for Dora Mavor Moore Award (the Canadian Tony) for Best
Theatre For Youth Audiences Production for 1997.
A gifted soprano Rachel studied classical voice in Toronto with Suzanne Kompass. Her
concert credits during this period include appearances at The George Weston Recital Hall
at The Ford Centre for the Performing Arts, Convocation Hall and Massey Hall all in
Toronto. She was also a featured soloist in Broadway Spectacular with the Windsor
Symphony conducted by David Cripps. It was after performances as Papagena in Die
Zauberflote and Diane in Orphee aux Enfers with Toronto’s Creative Artists Productions
that her love of classical music prompted Rachel to continue her opera studies at The
Mannes College of Music in New York City. While at Mannes she studied and performed
the roles of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Marzelline in Fidelio and Adina in L’Elisir
D’Amore. It was during evening studies at The Julliard School that Rachel began
studying voice with renowned voice teacher Dodi Protero. This period of study and
professional development was invaluable to her career as a singing actress.
After much travel as a professional performer over a ten year period Rachel now lives in
Windsor Ontario with her husband of three years. A supporter of theatre that promotes
the Jewish experience she most recently appeared across the border as Tzeitel in Fiddler
On the Roof at the Jewish Ensemble Theatre in West Bloomfield, Michigan. This
production won the Oakland Press Award for Best Revival of a Musical for 2004. Rachel
was pleased to continue her concert appearances by singing the role of Anne in a concert
version of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music with The Windsor Symphony. A
committed member of Actor’s Equity Association and Canadian Actor’s Equity since
1996 her future goal is to create the first Equity theatre company in Windsor performing
small musicals and plays while bringing professional quality theatre to her community.
