Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

ARTIKEL YASA LAN KOLEKSI WAYANG

YASA LAN KOLÉKSI WAYANG
KANGGO NGURI-URI BUDAYA JAWA
Aprilia Mardiastuti, SIP., Nugroho Samiadji, S.H.
Ora kétang klungsu-klungsu, mélu udhu. Paribasan kuwi mbok menawa
cocok kanggo tema lan isi, anggonè penulis ngudhar uneg-uneg lan gagasan
lumantar tulisan iki. Penulis kang wiwit isih bocah seneng banget lan kagilut
marang seni budaya tradisi Jawa, mliginè wayang kulit, kepéngin ngudhar
gagasan perkara seni tradisi tinggalan leluhur yaiku wayang kulit.
Sawisè wayang antuk kapitayan kekancingan saka masyarakat
internasional lumantar badan UNESCO minangka dadi peradaban dunia kang
adiluhung pirang taun kepungkur, wis pantes lan wajibè awakè dhèwè wong
Jawa kang andarbéni kudu gumrégah supaya wayang kulit tetep lestari lan
ngrembaka. Aja nganti wayang kondhang lan kawentar ing jaban rangkah,
nanging ing omahè dhèwè malah nangis ditinggal lan dilalèkakè.
Yén ora kléru, wayang bisa antuk kekancingan saka UNESCO, diakoni
minangka karya agung tinggalan leluhur kang adiluhung, jalaran jroning
wayang kuwi nuduhakè karya agung budaya leluhur kang adiluhung. Karya
kang dibiji déning masyarakat lan para ahli ing manca ora mung wujud
kebendaa-nè sing duwè nilai estetika karya seni rupa kang dhuwur, nanging
uga ana aspek non-bendawi yaiku filsafat lan ajaraning urip kang kamot
2. 2
sajroning budaya wayang. Ing tulisan iki penulis coba kepéngin ngudhar
gagasan bab wayang kulit saka aspek bendawi.
Yén wayang disawang saka aspek bendawi, pancen ora mokal disebut
tinggalan leluhur minangka karya agung kang adiluhung. Jalaran apa, wayang
mujudakè karya seni rupa kang pepak. Wiwit saka téknik pangolahing lulang
kang nyatanè ora gampang pangrumatè. Pangolahing lulang mau wiwitan saka
piye caranè menthéng, ngerok, nganti téknik liyanè kang diréka amrih piyè
caranè supaya lulang bisa bening lan kenceng, isa ngasilakè wayang kang
kualitasè apik tur kuat nampa owah-owahaning wanci lan mangsa. Sabanjurè
seni kriya tatah kang manéka warna saka jinisè, kaya kang sinebut tatah
bubukan, kawatan, inten-inten, seritan, lsp, kang komposisi lan penganggonè
uga béda-béda miturut jinis paraga wayangè.
Ing bab tatahan, ana kunci kang dadi wigati. Tatahan sing dimaksud
ing kènè mligi banget, disebut dèning istilah bedhahan. Yaiku, tatahan
pérangan rai antaranè mripat, untu, lambè, irung, athi-athi, lan janggut, kang
bakal nemtokakè gambaran éksprési tokoh kang dicocokakè kalawan
karakterè. Menawa nganti luput, ora trep, ora luwes, ora imbang bedhahanè,
wayang ora bakal katon urip èksprèsinè.
Sawisè tatahan lan bedhahan, kang ora kalah wigati yaiku bab seni
pulasan werna utawa sunggingan kang pranyata uga manéka warna téknik lan
gaya sarta motif pangolahing warna. Sunggingan iki kang miturut penulis
bakal “ngancing” wujud utuhè wayang, dadi gesang lan pantesè wayang.
Senadyan kaya ngapa lembut lan ngrawitè tatahan wayang, nanging yèn ta

sunggingan utawa pulasanè ora trep, bisa ndadékakè wayang ora katon
gesang, malah kucem, lan ilang karakter paraga tokoh wayangè. Nanging
kosokbalinè, manawa ana wayang kang tatahanè mung prasaja, agal, ora
ngrawit, ning sungginganè trep bisa dadi lan pantesè wayang.
Wayang kang minangka kasil produk seni rupa kriya tatah lan sungging
isih disampurnakakè manéh nganggo garan kanggo ngéwangi ngobahakè
wayang, kang sinebut gapit. Gapit kang bahan bakunè digawe saka sungu
kebo iki, diolah lan diréka daya nganti mawujud barang kang èndah, kepénak
kanggo ngobahake wayang, tur nambahi semu lan gesangè wayang yén
disawang. Pancenè wayang mujudakè seni kriya sing perfect. Kabeh
migunakakè téknik pangolah kang katonè tradisional nanging sejatinè
nuduhakè budaya tinggalanè para leluhur ing tanah Jawa iku banget
adiluhung, pinter, luwes, tur wasis, bisa mbabar kaèndahan kang gawè
gumun lan sengseming bebrayan.
Wayang kulit minangka budaya tinggalanè para leluhur pranyata bisa
gawè sengsem lan gumun kang mriksani. Kalebu piyayi saka ing
mancanagara. Wis kabuktén, mapirang-pirang karya seni tatah sungging kang
awujud wayang kulit saka nuswantara, wiwit suwè akéh kang manggon dadi
koléksinè piyayi ing manca. Malah kepara artefak wayang lawas utawa kuna
kang kuwalitasè apik sarta ana sejarahè wis suwè anggonè dadi koléksi ana
ing museum-museum negara manca. Wayang-wayang kuwi mau akéh kang
asalè saka karyanè para Mpu wayang jaman kuna, malah kepara saka yasanè
para Pangéran ing jaman jayanè karaton-karaton ing Jawa. Malah saiki, wis
4. 4
akéh uga universitas lan pawiyatan luhur ing manca kang ndadèkakè wayang
minangka objek penelitian sarta unit kegiatan perkuliahan. Mula akeh saka
universitas ing manca kuwi mau banjur padha yasa mboyong wayang kang
cacahè ora sithik saka pengrajin ing nuswantara.
Nitik saka kahanan mangkana mau, ora wurung suwèning-suwè yèn
nganti masyarakat padha lèna lan ora nggatékakè marang budayanè dhèwè,
mbesuk bisa kalakon nuswantara kentékan wayang jalaran pindhah ing
manca kabéh. Mula perlu ana pambudidaya kanggo nglestarékakè supaya
wayang tetep ngrembaka. Ing antaranè kudu ngopèni para penatah wayang
supaya isih tetep gelem setya padha gawè wayang kulit. Selawasè ana sing
gawè, tegesè wayang bakal tetep ana. Nanging yén ora ana sing yasa wayang,
penatah suwè-suwè bakal pindhah pakaryan ora gawè wayang manéh. Mula,
salah sawijining cara kanggo nglestarékakè kuwi mau yaiku kudu diwujudakè
lumantar yasa lan ngoléksi wayang kulit.
Sukur konjuk Ngarsaning Gusti, antaranè pirang-pirang taun kawuri
wis akéh piyayi kang saya sengkut anggonè nggatékakè budaya Jawa mliginè
wayang kulit supaya tetep ngrembaka. Kaya ramè kapacak ing media sosial,
akéh para seniman, mahasiswa, akademisi, birokrat, uga pemerintah daerah
kang saiki ramè-ramè padha yasa kolèksi wayang kulit, mliginè manéh tumrap
wayang gagrag Yogyakarta. Akéh wayang kulit kang wis manggon ana ing
manca di-rékonstruksi manéh nganggo cara nyorèk gambar kang kapacak ing
media sosial banjur digawè wayang.
5. 5
Saka dhasar informasi ing dhuwur iku mau, lumantar tulisan iki penulis
kepéngin ngudhar gagasan sarta crita pengalaman anggonè penulis ngoléksi
wayang kulit mliginè wayang kulit gagrag Yogyakarta. Ora kétang klungsu-
klungsu, mélu udhu.
Sakdurungè crita pengalaman penulis yasa koléksi wayang kulit gagrag
Yogyakarta, luwih dhisik ing kènè penulis bakal ngudhar gagasan pérangan
jinising wayang, nganggo dhasar pengalaman penulis nonton lan niténi
wayang kulit saka buku, saka majalah, saka pengrajin wayang, uga saka toko
barang kerajinan. Nganggo dhasar pengalaman noton kuwi mau, miturut
penulis jinis wayang kapérang dadi: wayang dolanan bocah (ana kang digawè
saka kerdhus, karton, kertas semén), wayang souvenir utawa hiasan kang
digawè saka lulang uga ana saka bahan liyanè kaya kertas lsp., banjur wayang
pedhalangan, yaiku wayang sing digawè penatah kanggo kaperluan dhalang
pentas. Kang pungkasan kuwi mau sing bakal penulis jlentrèhakè ing tulisan
iki.
Saka pengalaman penulis srawung penatah lan nyuwun pirsa para
dhalang, wayang pedhalangan biasanè digawè saka lulang (kebo utawa sapi),
sarta luwih nggatèkakè aspek-aspek kang mirunggan. Aspek-aspek kuwi mau
ing antaranè:
a. Pilihan lulang. Wayang sing apik digawè saka lulang sapi utawa kebo
sing kenceng, bening, nggatèkakè kandel utawa tipise lulang gumantung
digawè tokoh apa. Lulang kebo kuwalitasè luwih apik ketimbang lulang
sapi. Yén diolah, kasile lulang bisa bening lan luwih kenceng, sarta
6. 6
luwih kuwat, ora gampang nglunthung menawa ana owah-owahan
mangsa lan wektu kaya adhem lan panas, sarta saka ketiga lan mangsa
rendheng.
b. Bedhahan. Nyawang bentuk lan imbang-imbanganè sarta trep-trepanè
tatahan ing antaranè rai, mripat, irung, lambè, lan untu. Bedhahan iki
mau kang ana sambung rapet gegayutanè klawan karakter tokoh
wayang sing dilakonkè dhalang. Para dhalang biasanè bakal nyawang
bedhahan rai nalika ndhalang supaya karakter tokoh mau nuksma
klawan dhalang, diwujudkè lumantar solah, gunem lan antawacana.
c. Kapangan, tegese blegerè awak (postur) wayang saka dhuwur sirah
nganti sikil, dhuwur lan endhèkè bahu ngarep lan mburi.
d. Jangkahan, tegesè nggatèkakè antaranè suku ngarep lan mburi, endhék
lan dhuwurè.
e. Tatahan. Tatahan alus apa agal durung isa dianggo ukuran wayang iku
apik apa ora. Durung karuan wayang sing tatahanè lembut utawa
ngrawit, bedhahan utawa kapanganè uga apik. Lan uga durung mesti
yén tatahan agal iku wayang ora apik, jalaran ora sithik tatahan agal
kang bedhahan rai lan kapanganè apik, gesang, lan nengsemakè. Variasi
tatahan uga kalebu ing kènè, kaya ing antaranè variasi tatahan
pérangan sumping, uncal, ulur-ulur, praba, badhong, lan makutha.
f. Sabanjurè nyawang sunggingan. Akéh kang ngendikakakè wayang kang
apik menawa sungginganè ora tumbuk sorot, isa pilah ing antaranè
sunggingan sandhangan utawa pèrangan awak sing katon saka ngarep
7. 7
utawa sing katon saka mburi pérangan awak, ulat-ulatan (alis, mripat,
athi-athi, brengos, lambè), resik lan ora katon reget utawa kusem,
nanging uga werna mateng ora gumebyar kepadhangen.
g. Kang pungkasan, gapitan. Gapitan sing apik yaiku kira-kira, lamun luk-
lukanè ora ngolét, rata, luk-lukan luwes saka bangkékan-dhadha-
gulu, kuping, gelung utawa makutha, saya munggah gapit saya mucuk
cilik, gapitan ora kelemesen nanging uga mecut, ora kaku lan nggebug.
Sawisè bab aspek-aspek kang wis dijlèntrèhakè ing dhuwur, penulis

Iku mau ing antaranè tips saka pengalamanè penulis kanggo yasa lan
ngoléksi wayang kulit. Pancén kanggo yasa lan koléksi wayang kulit iku
mbutuhakè prabéa utawa ragad kang ora sithik. Nanging sejatinè larang iku
mau jalaran larangè wayang saka kasil pangreka sarta anggitanè para leluhur,
karya leluhur sing mbutuhakè lan dilairakè saka eninging cipta karsa para
leluhur kang mujudakè manawa dhuwur lan luhur budayanè. Pinter ngélmu
