Every school district has a unique story, and knowing that story and how to communicate it is critical to your district’s success. In this session, you will learn how to create your district’s story – its messages – with the buy-in from staff, parents, and board members. You will also learn how to how to embed that story in your various communications efforts so that it becomes self-perpetuating.
The students decided to focus on 3 major issues that affect the youth in the South Bronx: Police Brutality, Teen Pregnancy, and and Bullying/Cyber Bullying. We created a school wide event to educate/inform the rest of the school (ages 11-18) for 4 hours on 4/8/16. We also brought in three organizations that deal with the different issues (Breast Cancer Research Group, Planned Parenthood, Community Connections for Youth).

Citizenship: How do leaders in universities think about and experience citize...Randy Connolly
This presentation explores the concept of citizenship based on the experience of student leaders from a mid-sized university in western Canada. Five student leaders participated in semi-structured individual interviews to explore their experience with, and understanding of, citizenship. Interviews concentrated on personal view points and definitions of citizenship, explored whether or not there are “good” and “great” citizens, and the role universities play in fostering strong citizenship amongst its student body. The measurement of citizenship and opportunities to foster citizenship were also explored. Qualitative content analysis revealed five themes, including political participation, social citizenship/solidarity, engagement, transformative action and autonomy. Citizenship, while highly valued by this population, also appears to be impossible to measure. If post-secondary institutions are aiming to create better citizens, more work needs to be done to create a common understanding of the intended outcome. Based on these findings, a new potential model of citizenship is proposed, in line with the work of Dalton and others who emphasize a shift towards personal involvement over traditional political engagement. Further, these results suggest that students could benefit from understanding themselves as political agents, capable of inculcating change within the university context and beyond.
Today, I would like to ask the question “Are some people too stupid to get ahead?” In a speech to the Centre for Policy Studies think-tank in London Boris Johnson, London mayor said he don’t believe economic equality will ever be possible because some people are too stupid to get ahead in the modern world.

"Television provides vastly more visual information than radio and is more dynamic than a static printed page". ( University of Minnesota. 2010). Mass media has evolved drastically from when I was born in the 80s up until now. We use to get our information on newspaper, television, radio, and magazines. Now the media platform has grew so much. You can get the news on your phone and social media live tv. People are posting updates of new events on their pages and public forums. News are just a click of a button. Mass Media has influenced me in a very bad way. Sometimes I look at information that are not from reliable source and platforms that has no value. I tend to believe things on social media. Mass media has affected my friends, family, and co-workers in many different ways. There information sometimes are not crediable and they tend to spread the news incorrectly and fast. Mass media also has pursuade people to do things that they should not have done. One example I could give is with the recents events that happen at the capitol building. Some of the people say they were following what our former president told them to do. Television and ads can ifluence people to do things they could never imagine.

In years past television, radio, newspapers, and magazines provided the daily information that people needed in order have a sense of what was going on in the world in this country and in their local community. If people wanted to research a topic they would have to take a trip to the public library. The library was the place to access information. Sometimes it is difficult to know how much our lives have changed until we stop and look at how different things are compared to five or ten years ago. Whether you like to admit it or not social media plays a huge role in a lot of people's lives. Social media definitely is a major part of my daily life and honestly I couldn't imagine life without it. Without a doubt the age of social media has changed us as a society. For most part it's been a positive thing. Now we can connect with people across the world at the click of a button. We can stay in touch with family and friends keep on top of the latest news and connect with brands on a much more personal level.

1. Zim’s social media ambassador
He has literally taken over Facebook as more and more people follow him every day. While
some might have thought the social media platform was only for small talk and casual banter,
of late Thomas Chizhanje has proven that just posting on relevant topics may take you places
as you speak on behalf of the voiceless.
Born 32 years ago in Harare, the fourth born in a family of seven, Chizhanje — who holds a
Bachelor of Commerce Business Management Honours degree from Midlands State
University — is now populaly known as CST, a name that comes from his initials. “The S is
the reverse of my first name… So it’s Chizhanje Samoht Thomas [CST],” he said.
Chizhanje recently received the honour of being appointed the tourism brand Zimbabwe
social media ambassador by Tourism and Hospitality Industry minister, Walter Mzembi.
His Facebook page, which currently boasts of one of the biggest followings, describes his
passion, which he says is, “To be a great leader and [to] influence our nation and the whole
world in a positive manner.” What he enjoys the most about what he does is posting trending
and sometimes controversial topics, engaging the public in debates and discussions and
consequently influencing the social media nation, with a focus on youths. Some of the issues
he discusses on the page range from social etiquette, sport to the current power woes that are
topical these days.
“I also aim to emphasise the fact that anyone can be whatever they wish to be regardless of
the environment you are in and any form of challenges you are facing. However, the biggest
challenge I have faced so far is the fact that most of our nationals shy away from social
media, especially the older generation from 40 years going upwards. They feel like social
media is for kids and is not a serious platform. I am glad most people in these age groups are
now realising the value of social media and the impact it has,” he said.
He describes his biggest life-altering moments thus far as when he was capped by President
Robert Mugabe on his Honours degree graduation, when he got married, and — needless to
say — when he was appointed to his new post by Minister Mzembi.
2. He speaks of his hopes and plans as an ambassador; “I want to reach out to Zimbabweans in
this country and in the Diaspora as their source of news and also educate corporate and
individuals on the benefits of social media,” he said.
“Above all, I aim to ensure that Zimbabwe and Africa embrace social media so that we can
cut the distance barriers and relate more at a global level”.
Chizhanje’s passion for media is evident in the fact that he actually has a media consultancy
company which specialises in educating individual and organisations on social media
management, as well as assisting in crowd funding projects for the underprivileged.
Drawing inspiration from other people’s success stories, the affable young man lists his
parents, Strive Masiiwa, Mark Zuckerberg, Bishop Tudor Bismark and his best friend and
manager Spencer Madziya as his role models and the people that continue to push him
forward. He is also a musician who has done tracks with artists such as Diana Samkange and
Arnold Gara, among other artists in Zimbabwe.
