Arterias are blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to tissues and organs throughout the body. The aorta is the largest artery, carrying oxygen-rich blood from the left ventricle of the heart to all parts of the body. Arteries have thick elastic walls that allow them to expand when the heart contracts and pump blood to all parts of the body.
