- Support DDI and RDF
- Search studies and variables
- Compare variables
- Provides data access for datasets using Public, Licensed, Direct and Data Enclave
Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. It exists in three physical states: solid, liquid, and gas. In solids, particles are closely packed together and vibrate in a fixed position. In liquids, particles are farther apart and can move freely, while in gases particles are very far apart and move at very high speeds. Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration. Whether an object sinks or floats depends on its density compared to the density of the surrounding liquid - less dense objects float while denser objects sink.
The document describes a neutralization reaction experiment. Magnesium hydroxide was added to a test tube containing a phenolphthalein indicator. Hydrochloric acid was then added dropwise until three distinct changes were observed. The reaction that occurred was between magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid to produce magnesium chloride and water.
The document summarizes notes from a science class that covered topics including the scientific method, models, theories and laws, engineering design process, bioengineering, and a group project to design an assistive or adaptive bioengineered product. Key points included defining the steps of the scientific method, differences between physical, mathematical, and conceptual models, how theories can change but laws are proven, and the engineering design process of asking, imagining, planning, creating, and improving. Students were assigned to work in groups to create a poster presenting an assistive or adaptive bioengineered product with details on what it is, what it does, who will use it, and how it will be tested.

The document contains photos from Lapland in 2011 that depict the northern lights in Tromsø, reindeer racing in Tromsø, and dog sledding near Tromsø. The photos were taken by Edo-Jan Meijer and include captions citing the location and subject of the photos. Contact information for Edo-Jan Meijer is provided at the end of the document.
John Dalton proposed the first atomic theory in 1803 based on experimental evidence. The theory stated that matter is made of discrete particles called atoms, atoms of a given element are identical and different from other elements, and atoms combine to form compounds in fixed ratios. This view had been expressed by Greek philosophers previously but Dalton provided experimental evidence to support it. The theory helped explain the laws of constant composition and multiple proportions observed in chemical reactions.
The document discusses key concepts around concentration and solubility including:
- Solubility is defined as the physical property of being able to dissolve a substance, while insolubility is the inability to dissolve.
- Factors that increase the rate of dissolution of a solid in liquid include stirring the solution, grinding up the solid, and heating the solution.
- Solutions can be saturated, unsaturated, or supersaturated depending on the amount of solute dissolved relative to the maximum amount that can dissolve at a given temperature.
- Concentration is a measure of the amount of solute dissolved in the solvent.
The document summarizes Alfred Wegner's theory of continental drift. It describes how Wegner, a German scientist, was intrigued by similarities between fossils on different continents. Through studying coastline shapes and fossil evidence, Wegner proposed that the continents were once joined together and have since drifted apart, an idea that was initially rejected by other scientists. The document outlines Wegner's evidence for continental drift and explains the three types of tectonic plate boundaries.
The document matches boxes containing different types of substances to their descriptions. Box A contains only atoms and no molecules, making it an element. Box B contains molecules but no separate atoms, making it a compound. Box D contains both atoms and molecules, making it a mixture of compounds and elements. Boxes C and E both contain only molecules, making them mixtures of compounds, while box C also matches the description of a mixture containing only molecules and no separate atoms.
This document is a photo collection from Nepal in 2012 by photographer Edo-Jan Meijer. It contains scenic landscape photos from Nepal as well as contact information for the photographer. The quote "You can’t depend on your eyes if your imagination is out of focus" by Mark Twain is included to suggest that the photos are meant to stimulate the imagination of the viewer.

Of eigenlijk karton maché. Te zien bij Upstream Gallery.
5.
Prachtige stand.
