You work for a university, an institute, a branch of government or private industry where research takes place. It's your job to explain that research to audiences not reading peer-reviewed academic journals, whether those are industry partners, potential students, taxpayers, or government officials.
Veteran communicator Kelley Teahen offers easy-to-digest tips on how to explain what sometimes seems unexplainable in "What is it you do, and why does it matter? Writing effective research profiles."
In the beginning there was the internet, and organizations dumped their brochures onto web pages and thought, it was good. However, today's scanning and information-bombarded audience needs you to put them first when it comes to creating web content. They want it fast, easy and accessible. This seminar on web writing gives guideposts to improving and adapting your content to best serve your audience's needs: particularly relevant for those websites where information is the No. 1 reason audiences visit.
Let me tell you a story: using stories about people to spread your messageKelley Teahen
Many marketers have been inspired by Storytelling guru Andy Goodman. Canadian communications pro Kelley Teahen takes Goodman's theories and adds both a Canadian spin and more "how to" information on how to create effective stories to share with and influence your audiences.
For many years, Kelley Teahen has taught courses in writing for public relations, and always includes a section on "writing for event planning". Sure, the brochure you produced may be displayed, and you might also write a speech, but the event planning itself requires good writing skills, too. This short seminar is an introduction in good writing to event planners, as well as basic event planning intro to people working in communications.

It investigates the most common obstacles, challenges, and misconceptions cited by Irish designers for not practicing sustainability. The author conducted a mixed-methods study including a survey and interviews of designers, along with a case study of a sustainable design studio. The study found that designers are interested in sustainability but face certain obstacles that hinder its implementation. Recommendations are made to help overcome these obstacles and challenges to promote more sustainable work practices.
