This document summarizes a study on the relationship between tangible (built) and intangible (open) spaces in urban areas. It discusses how human movement and activity patterns are influenced by built structures and change as the uses of spaces change over time. The study analyzes spatial relationships between masses and voids, scale and proportion, degree of enclosure, and degree of permeability. Observations from a case study site show changing human patterns depending on the qualities of spaces. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of coherence, connectivity, and proportion between built and open spaces.
