Video games can have both good and bad effects on children. The good effects are that they exercise the brain by requiring skills like problem solving, planning, and multitasking. However, violent video games may increase aggressive thoughts and behaviors in children and confuse fantasy from reality. The author believes that in moderation, video games can be okay for children who can differentiate reality from fiction, but excessive playing or playing violent games as an addicted behavior should be avoided.
