Presentation carried out by the Autism Network Scotland looking into some of the early research they have carried out at their learning event in Glasgow for young people with Autism in Transition in Scotland. The work was carried out with Strathclyde University and was presented at the Scottish Transition Forum Scotland ( www.scottishtransitions.org.uk)
Early parent-mediated interventions for autism aim to improve child social functioning by optimizing parental dyadic interactions. The Preschool Autism Communication Therapy (PACT) targets behaviors like parental synchrony and child communication initiation through video-assisted parent training. Studies show PACT improves these behaviors and reduces autism symptoms. Mediation analysis found treatment effects on parental synchrony partially explain improved child communication. The intervention was also successfully implemented cross-culturally in South Asia with comparable treatment effects. Future research will generalize PACT effects to family and school contexts.

Transitions between child and adult services can be problematic due to differences in priorities, eligibility criteria, budgets, culture and staff. Young people are often not involved in transition planning. Integration of health and social care services aims to improve outcomes, but faces challenges from differences in organizations and professions. While early evidence from Scotland shows integration improving communications and flexibility, concerns remain that it could increase bureaucracy or fragment services for some. Successful integration requires involvement of individuals, local focus, and consideration of each person's situation.

The objectives were to promote the views of young people with profound and complex needs regarding post-school transition planning and develop an effective tool for them to express their views. The researcher adapted the Mosaic Approach to pilot it with a small group and evaluate its merits. Key implications were that the Mosaic Approach has potential value in ascertaining views and a listening culture must be promoted. The contribution of the educational psychologist was drawing on theory, understanding evidence-based practice, training in research skills, consultation skills, training staff in the approach, and taking a systemic view of wider impacting systems.

How person centred planning changed my lifescottread
The document describes how person centered planning changed the life of Alexander Warren. It details how he was frustrated by the limited options and low expectations at his special needs school. Through person centered planning, Alexander was able to share his dreams and goals, including attending acting school. This process helped him gain confidence and develop an action plan. As a result, Alexander pursued mainstream college courses in drama and art, started traveling independently, and is now in his second year of a drama degree. He credits person centered planning with allowing him to express himself and transforming his future prospects.
