Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist and politician who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He received his early education in Rameswaram and graduated from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli. As a scientist, Kalam played a pivotal role in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts. He served as the Project Director of India's first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle. He was awarded India's highest civilian honors, the Bharat Ratna in 1997 and Padma Vibhushan in 1990 for his work.
