The memorial is a bronze sculpture in the shape of a cross, formed from an Enfield rifle held in an inverted position as a sign of respect. The bayonet passed through the trigger guard signifies the end of hostilities. A steel battle helmet is placed over the firing mechanism in tribute to how graves were marked. The memorial would replace part of the current garden, with the remaining area planted with rosemary, a symbol of remembrance. Brass plaques with names of the fallen would be affixed to the base.
