This document summarizes the hormones produced by the anterior pituitary gland and their targets. It shows that the anterior pituitary produces six hormones: FSH, LH, TSH, MSH, prolactin, and ACTH. These hormones target the testes/ovaries, thyroid, adrenal cortex, mammary glands, melanocytes, liver, bones and other tissues. The hypothalamus produces releasing and inhibiting hormones that regulate hormone production and secretion by the anterior pituitary.
