Ansel Adams was born in 1902 and was an only child. He taught himself piano at age 12 and focused on music until changing to photography around age 24. His first camera was given to him by his father. In 1927, he published his first portfolio titled "Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras". Adams co-founded the photography group called Group f/64 with other famous photographers. He died in 1984 at the age of 82 from a heart attack.

Born in February 20,1902
He was only child and named after his
uncle Adam Easton.
His family owned prosperous lumber
business

3. He taught himself piano at the age of 12.
Music became his main focus.
For the next 12 years he continued to
play piano until he changed the piano
for photography.
Playing the piano brought substance,
discipline, and structure to his
frustrating and erratic youth.

His first camera was given to him by his
father.
In 1927, he contracted his first portfolio,
Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras.
He’s first portfolio was a success with the
sponsorship and promotion of Albert
Bender.

6. Between 1929 and 1942, Adams’ work
matured and he became more
established.
Adam expanded his wok, focusing on
detailed close-ups as well as large forms
from mountains to factories.
In 1930 Taos Pueblo, Adams’ second
portfolio, was published with text by
writer Mary Hunter Austin.

7. Adams’ love was nature.
Yosemite and Sierra Nevada were the
places he spent his time until he died.
In 1927 he made his first fully
visualized photograph, Monolith, the
Face of Half Dome.

8. Though wilderness and the environment
were his grand passions photography was
calling, he never made a creative photograph
specifically for environmental purposes.
Adam was often criticized for failing to
include humans or evidence of humanity
in his landscapes.
Adams was the las and defining in the
romantic traditional of nineteenth-century
American landscapes painting and
photography.

9. Contributions and Influences
He was influenced by romantic
landscape artists Albert Bierstadt and
Thomas Moran.
Adams co-founded Group f/64 with
other masters like Edward
Weston,Willard Van Dyke , and Imogen
Cunningham.

10. In 1966 a fellow of the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Adams’ photograph The Tetons and the
Snake River has the distinction of being
one of the 115 images recorded of the
Voyager Golden Record aboard the
Voyager spacecraft.
For Adams the natural landscape is not
fixed and solid.

11. Death
Ansel Adams was confined to his bed for
four weeks after leg surgery to remove
tumor.
He died in April 22,1984 at age of 82
from a heart attack.
He was survived by his wife, two
children and five grandchildren
