Z For Zachariah
Z for Zachariah is a post-apocalyptic novel that follows Ann as she survives alone after a nuclear war. When a man named Loomis appears, Ann is scared but eventually welcomes his companionship. However, Loomis' aggressive behavior, including an attempted rape of Ann, shows his dangerous nature. Ann matures through these hardships and realizes she no longer needs to rely on or obey Loomis. In the end, she decides to leave the valley and her childhood behind to begin her life as an independent adult.

Throughout the story, the characters are forced to do things they never imagined, like killing others, in order to survive in the war. One character, Ellie, sets a garden on fire and kills three soldiers who were chasing her friends in order to save themselves. Surviving the war requires the characters to do extreme acts, even if they are bad, to stay alive against the invading forces.

Another Note • Death Note: Another Note serves as a prequel to the anime series (Death Note), detailing the story of L's first encounter with Naomi Misora during the Los Angeles "BB Serial Murder Case" mentioned in the anime. The novel was written by Nisio Isin was published on August 1, 2006 in Japan. The novel was released in English on February 19, 2008

Another Note Main Characters • BB (Beyond Birthday) : A Serial Killer and a former successor for L and he has Shinigami (God of Death) Eyes that let him know the person’s real name and when will he die by seeing his face. • L : The century’s greatest detective and In the public record alone he solved over 3,500 difficult crimes No body knows his real name or look . • Naomi Misora : A former FBI Agent and L asked for her help in solving the Los Angeles Murder case . • Mello (Mihael Keehl): The narrator and the fictional writer for the novel and a successor for L

Another Note Main Plot The novel is narrated by Mello, who says that he is only telling the story in order to show his greater knowledge of L over Near (another successor for L and Mello’s rival). Mello decides that Near might not be the only person to read the book, so he should make it more interesting. While narrating he begins as a typical narrator, but drops it to acquire a way of speech that is usually associated with a live storytelling. The novel also switches from Mello's view and opinions to Naomi's point of view and Mello some times interrupts the story at various points when he has a problem with how he worded a certain sentence or how he had a character speak.
- 4. Another Note Main Plot Beyond's whereabouts remained unknown from May 2002 to the beginning of the story, L having tracked cases around the world to search for him. Beyond came up with a plan to surpass L, as the "World's Greatest Criminal“ as L was “The century’s greatest detective”, giving L a case that he hoped L would be unable to solve so Beyond killed three different people leaving in every crime scene clues for the next murder that only L would be able to find so L tries to find him before he commits the forth murder .

Another Note The Victims • Believe Bridesmaid • Beyond Birthday's first known victim was the freelance writer Believe Bridesmaid, whom he killed July 31st, 2002, after drugging him and then choking him with a rope. Four Wara Ningyo (straw dolls) were left at the crime scene, Bridesmaid's chest was slashed several times; the killer also took the time to re-dress him. When looking at the autopsy photos, Naomi Misora found that the wounds were made to resemble letters (in actuality, a Roman numeral code spelling out the name of the next victim). • Quarter Queen • The second murder happened four days later, on August 4th. The victim, Quarter Queen (a 13-year-old girl), was also drugged before her death, the cause of which was blunt force trauma to her skull. Her eyes were also crushed. Three Wara Ningyo were left at the scene of the crime.
- 6. Another Note The Victims • Backyard Bottomslash • The third killing happened nine days after Quarter Queen's murder. Backyard Bottomslash was a 28-year-old bank worker who had also been drugged before her death, though her age fell in-between those of the previous two victims (44 and 13). Beyond Birthday wanted to find out if a human can die of an internal hemorrhage without rupturing any organs. Beyond Birthday conducted this experiment by drugging and then beating Backyard Bottomslash's left arm without breaking the skin. When this did not work, her death was caused by loss of blood, with her right leg and left arm cut off. The right leg was discovered in the bathtub later. The left arm was taken by Beyond Birthday. Two Wara Ningyo were found nailed to the walls in a similar manner to the other two cases.
