Making an
impact
All of the ILM management
books were stocked by the
library helping me to study
We are starting a journal
club.. .. I used my open
athens and kings college
library accounts to access
journals we can review.
I read journal papers on
CMv specific T cells and that
has led to a potential
research project and clinical
trial here at Kings
It can often be difficult to
access computers within the
hospital so library facilitates a
quiet area to study and
concentrate on work, which
ultimately benefits patient care
I prepared a presentation for
my department and
information I found in the
library helped me be up to date

Resources
This year saw relatively small changes to resources following
the investment to increase availability of ejournals via
OpenAthens in 2014-15
UsageTotal OpenAthens account
registrations rose to over 3700
The number actively using their
account dipped slightly which
was disappointing given
investment in eresources
300+ staff received
information skills training at
one of over 50 sessions
Feedback was highly positive
for these courses
Book lending remained close
to 19,000 transactions
NHS staff requests for new
book titles were purchased
throughout the year
The number of new library members was
close to a thousand
We have simplified joining which should
support uptake. Changes to induction
processes mean not all junior medical staff
complete registration for physical access
Progress with plans
During the course of the year we:
• Prepared a KCH wide Library & Knowledge Services Strategy to
more closely align work with the PRUH LKS Team
• Created an NHS functional role to provide additional capacity
and focus on the NHS within the Library Services team
• Carried out our biannual user survey
• Reviewed our information skills training programme shifting
delivery to the Learning & Skills team. This will drive
improvements to quality by developing deeper expertise
• Extended opening hours with 24/7 access to the full library
from January onwards
• The Cloud was introduced to offer high quality guest wifi
Plans for
2016-17
• Refreshed Trust wide group information skills
training portfolio
• Elearning modules via KHP Learning Hub
Skills training
• King’s College Hospital Libraries wide marketing
strategy
• Specialty targeted eresource promotion
Marketing
• Review current and potential alerting services
• New service offer plan for 2017/18
