Android KitKat was designed to run fast on a broader range of devices through improved memory management that launches services serially and more aggressively protects system memory. It introduced a printing framework that allows users to discover printers, change paper sizes, select pages to print, and print any content over Wi-Fi. KitKat also included low-power sensor batching and step detection/counting as well as new ways to build immersive, full-screen apps with rich visual content and animations. A tool called ProcStats was added to help analyze memory resources and identify background services by keeping track of how apps run over time.
