and tradition. One of the highlights of its culture
are the numerous festivals celebrated here.
Most of these festivals are religious and some
are organized by the government of Andhra
Pradesh. These festivals are celebrated with
great pomp and gaiety.
Festivals of Andhra Pradesh
Of the religious festivals and fairs,
Brahmotsavam at Tirupati and the Sri Rama
Navami Festival at Bhadrachalam are quite
popular. Lumbini Fair, Vishaka Utsav, Deccan
Festival are popular fairs highlighting the
culture of the state.
LANGUAGE
TeluguisaDravidianlanguagenativeto India.It standsalongsideHindi,EnglishandBengaliasone of thefew
languagesthatpredominateinmorethanoneIndianstate; it istheprimarylanguagein thestatesof Andhra

census),fifteenthintheEthnologuelistof most-spokenlanguagesworldwideandisthemostwidely-spoken

InloansfromSanskrit,Teluguretainssomeof thefeaturesthathavesubsequentlybeenlostinsomeof Sanskrit's
daughterlanguagessuchasHindiandBengali, especiallyin thepronunciationof somevowelsandconsonants.
RELIGION
According to the 2011 census, the Andhra Pradesh state's population
(before the state's bifurcation, hence includes religious affiliation from
neighbouring Telangana too) (This does not reflect the current religious
affiliation in Andhra Pradesh formed as of 2nd of July 2014, religious
data for Andhra Pradesh is around 91.25% Hindu with a Muslim minority
of 6.25% along with smaller numbers of Christians, Jains, Sikhs, and
Buddhists.[64]
Hinduism
Andhra Pradesh is home to Shankaracharya of Pushpagiri Peetham.
Other Hindu saints include Sadasiva Brahmendra, Bhaktha Kannappa,
Yogi Vemana, Yogi Sri Potuluri Virabrahmendra Swami, who was born in
the Vishwabrahmin (goldsmith) caste.[65]
Mahayana-Buddhism

Buddhism spread to Andhra Pradesh early in its history. The Krishna
River valley was "a site of extraordinary Buddhist activity for almost a
thousand years."[66] The ancient Buddhist sites in the lower Krishna
Valley, including Amaravati, Nagarjunakonda and Jaggayyapeta "can be
traced to at least the third century BCE, if not earlier.
ART FORMS
Art: Annamayya, Tyagaraja, Kuchipudi summarise the rich artistic traditions of Andhra
Pradesh. Contributions of Annamacharyaand Tyagarajato the "grammar of sound"
made Telugulanguage the preferred language of compositionfor Carnatic Music and
made AndhraPradeshthe mother of all modern music. Their influence not onlyon
Carnatic but global classical music andthe organisation of sound as a mediumof
emotional resonance has no parallel in human history. Kuchipudi as a refinement of the
ancient art of Bharathanatyam, and in the context of theunique religious and cultural
traditions of AndhraPradeshstands on par withall the great global traditions of Classical
Dance.
DANCE
Telugu cuisine is a cuisine of South India native to the
Telugu people from the states of Andhra Pradesh and
Telangana. It is also the cuisine of the Telugu-speaking
population of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with slight
variations due to local influences. Generally known for its
tangy, hot and spicy taste, the cooking is very diverse
due to the vast spread of the people and varied
topological regions.
Andhra Pradesh state is the leading producer of red chili,
rice and Telangana state is millets in India influences the
liberal use of spices — making the food one of the
richest and spiciest in the world. Vegetarian as well as
meat and seafood (coastal areas) feature prominently on
the menus. Dal (lentils), tomato and tamarind are largely
used for cooking curries. Spicy and hot varieties of
