Ancient Athens and Ancient Sparta had both similarities and differences. They were both located between three mountain ranges and were Greek city-states. However, life in Athens was free and open while life in Sparta was harsh and cruel. Athens engaged in trade by sea, while Sparta did not trade at all. Additionally, Athens had a democratic government compared to Sparta's oligarchy.
