Conclusion

We wanted to live in a rich area and relatively expensive apartment. We figured that safe-

ty was more important than clothes or spending excessively on food. We picked an apartment on

501 Beale Street, which is in a good area in San Francisco. We learned that the amount we pay

for housing isn’t just the rental rate. We had to pay other fees, such as renter’s insurance and a

safety deposit. We also learned that the apartment could come with a lot of amenities such as free

wifi, furnishings, and gym membership.

We now understand that food is expensive. We eat the minimum amount of food ($25 a

day), and yet are still spending close to $10,000 a year on food.

We also realize why people hate taxes. It takes up around $20,000, and by our pie chart

one can see that this is one of our greatest expenditures. Taxes significantly hinder our ability to

spend money on other areas such as food, transportation, or Coachella concerts.

We were surprised at how little healthcare cost, compared to taxes. We were worried that

we had to pay a lot for healthcare, but we actually only had to pay $732 annually. We concluded

that this was because we are young women and don’t need much healthcare.

Transportation doesn’t cost a lot, but if we use it everyday, it adds up to a lot of money.

Just a $4 difference per day of transportation costs added up to more than $1,200 each year.

For Utilities, we learned that some houses don’t even use gas. Gas is mostly used for

stoves, so since we have an electric stove, we don’t have to spend gas money. Moreover, for dif-

ferent areas of the country, the electricity bill is very different. This phenomenon is mostly be-

cause of different climates, however.

We learned that extracurricular activities actually don’t take up too much money, except

traveling. We didn’t realize how costly traveling was, until now.

Because Sukie earned less than Raya, she found herself budgeting more carefully, chang-

ing a lot in the areas regarding extracurricular activities.
