Sampling Methods Essay
Sampling is the framework on which any form of research is carried out. A suitable sample that
meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria of a research design must be chosen from a given
population to carry out studies. In this essay comparison is made between stratified random
sampling and convenience sampling. The population on which the researcher is interested in
carrying out his or her research may be too large, therefore a suitable sample which can represent the
population in correct proportion must be chosen. Restraints such as limitation of time, resources and
many other factors necessitate the selection of a sample for research purpose so that better quality
data is obtained from it and that the researcher can make statement about...show more content...
The methodological strength and weaknesses of this two sampling methods is discussed in terms of
identifying the samples for research, the representativeness it possesses to the general population, the
methods and the outcome. Stratified random sampling is a probability sampling where the selection
of sampling unit is left to a random process, all units in the sample has an equal and non–zero
chance of being selected on a probability ground or chance and not on the choice or judgement of
the researcher (Sim,J and Wright,C. 2000,). Convenience sampling is an example of non probability
sampling where the selection of the units is not by chance, rather it is dependent on the researcher's
judgement, the researcher decides the samples to be included in the study which may be subject to
availability, time, individual preferences etc. The probability of selection of a particular sampling
unit may or may not be known. Stratified random sampling is commonly done in quantitative
researches. When the samples reflect the characteristics of the target population in the same
proportion; assumptions can be made on generalizing the data acquired from these samples provided
it has been done correctly, since it is statistically representative (Sim,J and wright,C.,2000) but

Essay on Determination
Some people believe that talent and a winning attitude are all you need in order to succeed in your
endeavors, but a winning attitude means having determination, which many people lack. As seen on
wisdomforthesoul.org, "Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination."
Determination is an important factor in the overall success or failure of a person's efforts.
Unfortunately, determination is not something that comes easy to the majority of people. To be truly
determined, a person must first be passionate about what they're doing. Passion, however, is only the
first step towards resolution and determination. One must have a clear goal in mind, and be willing to
do anything to achieve said goal. Once they have set...show more content...
(www.merriam–webster.com) This is synonymous with my personal definition of determination.
When the end is decided upon, there is no reason or desire to change said goal. A person under
the influence of determination is comparable to a train. The train will not change its direction, as
it cannot, and no matter what, the train will continue along the tracks until it either reaches its
destination, or is stopped by the conductor. For as an example, my plan after high school is to go
to college, and then move into the professional world. When confronted about possibly wanting to
join the military, my answer is absolutely not. Going to college right after high school has always
been my mindset, and there's no way my determination will let that change. I am the metaphorical
train, because my destination is set, and there's no chance for me to adjust my direction. I will not
stray from my goal, because it would mean wrecking myself and all those involved in my
endeavors. There will be mountains in front of me, and people I may have to run over to reach my
goal, but when one's mind is set, they will not waver, and neither will I.
Another dictionary defines determination as firmness of purpose (thefreedictionary.com). When one
is determined, they are ready for what life throws at them, because no matter how obscure the path
may be, they always have a clear view of their final destination. To be determined means to always

My Reflection Of Art
Art has been something that I have always enjoyed. Whether it be actually creating my own
pieces or admiring pieces from local artist, it has been a passion of mine very early on in my life.
Now before taking Art 102 I never really attempted to dive in deep to the pieces I was admiring; I
never really "decoded" any of the pieces, really. Instead, I would simply snap a quick photo, add a
dark filter that really made the reds stand out, and write a witty quote. This has been my cycle when
walking into any exhibit for the past years; find the most visually appealing work of art and spend
more time on posting the piece on social media than actually interpreting what the artist was trying to
portray. Going through the semester I have learned...show more content...
Charles Graner and his team are the ones responsible for such actions and are responsible for the
photo. When Graner and his team were exposed by Joe Derby, the entire world took note and
there was not only outrage on Graner's part but on Derby as well for betraying his fellow
American military. Copper Greene not only borrows the photo but iPod billboard as well and in
a sense does a spin off creating his unique piece with his own message. The reason why we as
individuals are able to make the connection of Greene's piece to Apple's advertisement is because
the idea of signifier and signified. Where in this case the we take the signifier which is the bright
loud colors with the a dark figure used in Greene's work and we translate that to the signified;
which is apple products. In short, bright loud colors with dark figure equals apple products. Greene
also uses bricoloage to create a sense of representation as he is using his platform to highlight the
real world and those real issues. In this case, that being of American Military personal using strong
forms of interrogation. Looking at the piece closer and decoding what the white headphones truly

too Americans use those some head phones to shut out the outside world and any real problems,
isolating themselves to their tunes and their own problems. The

Affirmations Essay
How to use Affirmations
History of Affirmations
Affirmations are words or phrases that evoke a positive state of mind. Affirmations as we know
them today have a long history in the concept of self–help. They are believed to originate in the
work of French psychotherapist Emile Coue. His affirmation "Every day, in every way, I'm getting
better and better" was given to his patients to repeat at the beginning and end of every day in order to
change their unconscious thoughts. This method of autosuggestion was credited with curing a bevy
of mental, emotional, and even physical problems. The New Thought Movement, which was a
spiritual movement founded in the USA in the early 19th century, spread all around the USA with
non–religious and religious groups based on new thought springing up everywhere. This was the
turning point in the popularity of affirmations and lead to many books on self–help being written.

Repeating affirmations helps change the subconscious thought pattern. Sometimes there may be
some obstacles to overcome. But affirmations are the easiest way to reprogram the subconscious
mind. In fact, there is perhaps no simpler way to create the life you desire and deserve than by
using The Science of Affirmations. But you have to understand them to know how to use them.
Before you can use the power of Affirmations, we have to lay a little groundwork. It starts with
self–love and awareness. If you are unhappy or not satisfied with any aspect of your life, it is only
because the person you live as every day is not who you really are. Release your old limiting beliefs
and stories, and begin to forgive yourself. Recognize that you are worthy and deserving of your
dreams and desires. Realize how truly powerful you are and begin to embrace

What it Means to be an American Essay
What it Means to be an American What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an
American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the
only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not
have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died
for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first
seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America
would be like now. One of the most important and well–known facts about America is freedom. We

The people in America are given something that not everybody's given. A chance to be successful
and to survive, and most countries are not given that chance. Being in America offers a lot to the
people. One of the most important right America offers to America is the chance to be ourselves
and to live in a place were small wars are not going on between states or communities. The U.S.
gives us a chance to be fed. The people in America are not surrounded by a majority of starving
people. Instead we have one of the most powerful economy in the world. America offers so much
to the people who live in the U.S., but America will always be full of criticism, violence, and
people who are offended by everything. America still seems to manage to be one of the world's
best nations. The first Americans planned America to be as successful as it is, but for America to
be more peaceful. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous
place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. A lot of the Americans are greedy,
because they take advantages of what America offers to their citizens. Even though America is not
perfect I am still glad to live in the U.S.

Setting the Example Essay
Strong leadership is critical to an organizations success. Leaders need to be honest, trustworthy,
respected, and good communicators (Montana & Mitchell, 2005, p. 83). Effective communication is
necessary to eliminate confusion. Think how the receiver will interpret the message that you are
saying or writing. Effective communication can only occur when the receiver of the message
understands what the sender is intending to say.
Anyone can manage but not everyone makes a good leader. "Leadership is a process by which a
person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that
makes it more cohesive and coherent" (Clark, 2010, p. 1). As a leader, inspire your employees by

While my twenty–five year old manager did not have children at the time of her audit, I explained I
do have a child at home. Being a single mother it is my responsibility to be there for my child
regardless of whether she is one or sixteen. It is not fair to ask me to work so much overtime while
my leader was not willing to work any extra time.
Immediately I went to upper management. My lieutenant called a meeting between us and
essentially stated we needed to work it out between the two of us. Knowing this could be a
potential career ending move if I did not have a successful accreditation audit, I did what I had to
do to get the job done... by myself. At one point I worked seven days per week for seven weeks
straight.
Needles to say, I ended up working 800 hours overtime that year to prepare our agency. We passed
our audit with the best score ever; however, I could not revel in the success. I had never in my life
been so disappointed in my leaders. Not having the support of my managers created enormous
stress not only in my professional life but in my personal life. I felt I had let my daughter down
and I had nowhere to go. My spirit was broken. I was exhausted and burned out. Being the sole
supporter financially for my family, I also felt trapped.
To this day, I am extremely disappointed in the way that the situation was handled by my leaders. I

Who Will Stop Me: An Example Essay
Who Will Stop Me: An Example Essay A majority of my life has been filled with experiences that
I had to fight for. One of the most inspirational women I've discovered in my life so far has been
the novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand. The summer before my junior year of high school I
stumbled across the following quote by her: "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who
is going to stop me." More simply this means that you shouldn't focus on who is going to say yes,
it's all about who is going to try and hold you back. For longer than I would like to admit I was a
slave to the passive attitude of others that basically allowed me to do whatever I wanted, whether it

My parents weren't particularly pleased with my decision at first, however, they supported my
decision to re–enter the public school system in the end. The following years really put my belief
of not letting outside influences persuade me away from what I loved to the test. Accepting an
answer that you don't necessarily like is much less involved than having to step up and say, "No, I
deserve this. I've earned it." This proved to be true when I transferred to Satellite High School.
Satellite was known for their enhanced musical education programs. Although I didn't know it at
the time, it was the people telling me that I would never amount to anything in their top orchestra
that really pushed me to find a way to put myself in the first chair seat. Landing last chair my
sophomore year was hard to come to terms with. Stepping back to look at the big picture of the
situation helped me recognize that it didn't matter who was going to stand behind me as I tried to
work my up through the seats within my little section. The only thing I needed to focus on was
who was going to put up a fight as I challenged them for their seat. Most people were rather
lackadaisical about their music, and moving up through the section wasn't too difficult. Looking into
the faces of everybody that told me I couldn't, yet watched me get closer to my dream was
satisfying. Losing sight of who you are in high school can absolutely destroy everything

Losing a Loved One
Losing a loved one is like having the rug swept from under you. We make plans for the day, and
do not think twice about how those plans can be taken away in the blink of an eye. I never thought
much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my uncle's death. I
do not think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with shocking news. It
is amazing how we take life for granted. The tragedy never goes away. You just learn how to cope

My mom kept saying "I have got to go see Fran. I need to see with my brother" My mom ran down

said that she loved me. I had never seen my mom so panicked. She went into the bathroom to take

standing in the middle of the family room as the words "He is dead" pierced my heart like daggers

The Health Benefits of Exercise Essay
Exercise is one of the most important factors in a persons' life. Physical activity, or the lack of it,
can result in a person having a healthy life or cause them to have diabetes. The benefits of exercise
are countless. The positive health results, the improvement in attitude, even better academic
performance are all factors which make not exercising inexcusable.
Merely not using a person's body is harmful. Not being active results in a person's muscles
becoming weak and out of condition. The effectiveness of a person's heart and lungs will decrease.
A person's joints will become stiff and can be injured easily. Inactivity can be as much of a health

Adults should have around thirty to sixty minutes of physical activity four to six times a week. Two
hours and thirty minutes is the minimum a fully developed person needs to lessen the risk of having
some type of chronic disease later in life ("Information").
Physical fitness has two main classifications–performance related and health related. People have
different performance related requirements in accordance with their occupation but all people have
the same health related requirements (The World). Then there are two types ofexercise that helps
tone a person's body while increasing its endurance. These are aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic
exercise is exercise that uses the muscles and bones. Cardio activities are a good example of this,
such as running or biking. This type of exercise increases the strength of a person's heart and
boosts their lung capacity. Anaerobic exercise is an intense but short amount of exercise
(Payment). Since it is only for a brief amount of time, it does not require the amount of oxygen
aerobic exercise does. Instead it uses glycogen which comes from the sugar in a person's blood.
An example of this exercise is weight lifting or sprinting. A person's requires both anaerobic and
aerobic exercise for good health. Simply doing a cardio work out is not healthy, and for a person to
see real results there must be some activity like weight lifting ("Anaerobic").
By performing some type of physical activity each

any test I take.
The biggest learning experience to me so far is life itself. I feel that way because there is so much to

of learning because a year ago I did not appreciate learning. I did not value it like I value it now. I

attitude in high school was bad because I really did not feel I was learning, so I took it for granted.

new things everyday. I feel that I am beginning to have a passion for learning. I never thought that
I would feel this way about learning because I never did appreciate it like I do now. I now actually

Morality Essay examples
Morality is defined as a system or code that we humans use to differentiate between right and wrong.
This system could be derived from a number of factors: religion, culture, and upbringing. It is
difficult enough to determine what an individual's morals are, but going further to determine how
we came to possess those morals is even more ambitious. Still, regardless of its difficulty, this subject
consumes many philosophers and psychologists. One such moral psychologists, Jonathan Haidt, is
theorizing the possibility of evolution causing ones morality. Haidt is a moral psychologist at the

our emotions. It is with this system that humans received their instinctual reactions to specific
situations; it is these sorts of "gut reactions" that enabled human survival in ancient times. The other
is a modern system, a system that initiated when language was invented. This system, he explains,
is more associated with our ability to reason and judge. This system allows us to question our
instinctual reactions and determine some explanation as to why we feel a particular way. However,
he feels that these two complex systems are subconsciously active within the individual; he does not
believe that people are aware of these concepts affecting their morality. These two systems are the

reasoning cannot explain your initial reaction. Furthermore, Haidt believes that emotions are linked
more to one's subconscious, while reasoning is linked to one's consciousness. He believes most
philosophy focuses too much on the conscious while underestimating the power of the subconscious.
In regards to his experiment testing one's disgust for eating one's pet, he believes this disgust

their mind and thus helps them to cope with the condition (Holder et al, 2015). Moreover, the
current cardiac rehabilitation programme, made the patients aware of the health benefits of exercise
and, therefore they were motivated to continue the exercise (Hillsdon et al, 2013; Morken et al,
2013). Exercising in a safe environment, under the supervision of the trained staff increases the
confidence of patients in participating exercise (Morken et al, 2013). The study also found that, the
patient increases their self–confidence level in performing exercise, after seeing the health
improvements in the former cardiac patients (Morken et al, 2013). Furthermore, Back et al (2017)

Methodology of Research
The method that I will be using to research my area of sociology will be a
structured questionnaire, it will be structured so that the candidates stick to the
questions that they are asked and do not write about irrelevant matters. I will first of
all produce a pilot questionnaire and send it round to a test group of people, and
hopefully see whether or not I am able to obtain the relevant information that I need
for my research with the questions that I have asked my targeted group of people. If
the questionnaire provides me with my needed information, I will the produce more
and send them out to a larger sample of people and obtain my...show more content...
Also using a questionnaire is a quick way to
obtain information and can cover a wide area of matters with just a few questions,
whereas if I had used an interview as my method it would of taken a much longer
amount of time and I might of not been able to get the answers that I needed out of
my candidates. Another bonus of using a questionnaire, would be that once I have
received all of the information I will be able to put my findings into the relevant
tables, and then I will be able to compare my findings to the secondary data that I
have gathered with and will be able to do this with ease.
Because I am establishing the role of women within working class households and the
effect that their roles have had on their families way of life. I need to be able to define
what I class as a working class household; which in my view is a family with either a
mum or a dad or both that goes out to work and then comes home to look after that
home and the family. Therefore I have asked questions to determine who in the
household goes out to work and the sort of jobs that they do around the home. By
asking these questions I feel that I will be able to differentiate between upper, lower
and middle class households and therefore gather the information that I

Essay about Leadership in Early Childhood
Leadership is a sociocultural construct underpinned by the beliefs and values of a society
(Waniganayake, Cheeseman, Fenech, Hadley, & Shepherd, 2012). Leadership in early childhood
have shifted the focus from one designated leader into a more collective approach – distributed
leadership, which is not about delegating. As Cheeseman (2012) states, in early childhood settings,
attention is often directed at administrative and management leadership (Waniganayake et al., 2012);
however it is important to have a designated leader in the areas of development and implementation
of curriculum and pedagogy – being the educational leader as a requirement of the National Quality
Framework – whilst at the same time see educational leadership as a...show more content...
One will examine the underlying philosophies, theories and principles that shape their professional
beliefs about children's learning (Brown, et al., 2012; Waniganayake et al., 2012; Duignan, 2006).
For any obstacles they may encounter, through the contingency theory, an educational leader will
work with the appropriate style of leadership most suitable in that circumstance (Rodd, 2006), and
respond to various situations in times of change by critically reflecting on the purposes they see for
their setting and the goals they are aiming to achieve with children and families. Understanding from
the transformational theory, an educational leader will be inspiring others with visions that can
enable the team to be directed and motivated toward creating 'a culture of learning and professional
growth' (Duignan, 2006; Waniganayake et al., 2012; Sinclair, 2007; Rodd, 2006; Siraj–Blatchford
and Manni, 2006; ACECQA, 2013). Moreover, distributed leadership approach, which falls under
the transformational theory, is seen in the educational leader as they work collaboratively with
others towards the same vision (Rodd, 2006). For instance, taken from ACEQA (2013), the
educational leader would examine routines with each of the room leaders, and how to make them
more effective for children's learning experiences. Here, the educational leader is not only guiding
staff along, but also problem–solving

  • 1. Sampling Methods Essay Sampling is the framework on which any form of research is carried out. A suitable sample that meets the inclusion and exclusion criteria of a research design must be chosen from a given population to carry out studies. In this essay comparison is made between stratified random sampling and convenience sampling. The population on which the researcher is interested in carrying out his or her research may be too large, therefore a suitable sample which can represent the population in correct proportion must be chosen. Restraints such as limitation of time, resources and many other factors necessitate the selection of a sample for research purpose so that better quality data is obtained from it and that the researcher can make statement about...show more content... The methodological strength and weaknesses of this two sampling methods is discussed in terms of identifying the samples for research, the representativeness it possesses to the general population, the methods and the outcome. Stratified random sampling is a probability sampling where the selection of sampling unit is left to a random process, all units in the sample has an equal and non–zero chance of being selected on a probability ground or chance and not on the choice or judgement of the researcher (Sim,J and Wright,C. 2000,). Convenience sampling is an example of non probability sampling where the selection of the units is not by chance, rather it is dependent on the researcher's judgement, the researcher decides the samples to be included in the study which may be subject to availability, time, individual preferences etc. The probability of selection of a particular sampling unit may or may not be known. Stratified random sampling is commonly done in quantitative researches. When the samples reflect the characteristics of the target population in the same proportion; assumptions can be made on generalizing the data acquired from these samples provided it has been done correctly, since it is statistically representative (Sim,J and wright,C.,2000) but sampling error Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on Determination Some people believe that talent and a winning attitude are all you need in order to succeed in your endeavors, but a winning attitude means having determination, which many people lack. As seen on wisdomforthesoul.org, "Real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determination." Determination is an important factor in the overall success or failure of a person's efforts. Unfortunately, determination is not something that comes easy to the majority of people. To be truly determined, a person must first be passionate about what they're doing. Passion, however, is only the first step towards resolution and determination. One must have a clear goal in mind, and be willing to do anything to achieve said goal. Once they have set...show more content... (www.merriam–webster.com) This is synonymous with my personal definition of determination. When the end is decided upon, there is no reason or desire to change said goal. A person under the influence of determination is comparable to a train. The train will not change its direction, as it cannot, and no matter what, the train will continue along the tracks until it either reaches its destination, or is stopped by the conductor. For as an example, my plan after high school is to go to college, and then move into the professional world. When confronted about possibly wanting to join the military, my answer is absolutely not. Going to college right after high school has always been my mindset, and there's no way my determination will let that change. I am the metaphorical train, because my destination is set, and there's no chance for me to adjust my direction. I will not stray from my goal, because it would mean wrecking myself and all those involved in my endeavors. There will be mountains in front of me, and people I may have to run over to reach my goal, but when one's mind is set, they will not waver, and neither will I. Another dictionary defines determination as firmness of purpose (thefreedictionary.com). When one is determined, they are ready for what life throws at them, because no matter how obscure the path may be, they always have a clear view of their final destination. To be determined means to always know Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Reflection Of Art Art has been something that I have always enjoyed. Whether it be actually creating my own pieces or admiring pieces from local artist, it has been a passion of mine very early on in my life. Now before taking Art 102 I never really attempted to dive in deep to the pieces I was admiring; I never really "decoded" any of the pieces, really. Instead, I would simply snap a quick photo, add a dark filter that really made the reds stand out, and write a witty quote. This has been my cycle when walking into any exhibit for the past years; find the most visually appealing work of art and spend more time on posting the piece on social media than actually interpreting what the artist was trying to portray. Going through the semester I have learned...show more content... Charles Graner and his team are the ones responsible for such actions and are responsible for the photo. When Graner and his team were exposed by Joe Derby, the entire world took note and there was not only outrage on Graner's part but on Derby as well for betraying his fellow American military. Copper Greene not only borrows the photo but iPod billboard as well and in a sense does a spin off creating his unique piece with his own message. The reason why we as individuals are able to make the connection of Greene's piece to Apple's advertisement is because the idea of signifier and signified. Where in this case the we take the signifier which is the bright loud colors with the a dark figure used in Greene's work and we translate that to the signified; which is apple products. In short, bright loud colors with dark figure equals apple products. Greene also uses bricoloage to create a sense of representation as he is using his platform to highlight the real world and those real issues. In this case, that being of American Military personal using strong forms of interrogation. Looking at the piece closer and decoding what the white headphones truly mean, we can conclude that those headphones not only serves as electrical wires used for torture but too Americans use those some head phones to shut out the outside world and any real problems, isolating themselves to their tunes and their own problems. • 4. Affirmations Essay How to use Affirmations History of Affirmations Affirmations are words or phrases that evoke a positive state of mind. Affirmations as we know them today have a long history in the concept of self–help. They are believed to originate in the work of French psychotherapist Emile Coue. His affirmation "Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better" was given to his patients to repeat at the beginning and end of every day in order to change their unconscious thoughts. This method of autosuggestion was credited with curing a bevy of mental, emotional, and even physical problems. The New Thought Movement, which was a spiritual movement founded in the USA in the early 19th century, spread all around the USA with non–religious and religious groups based on new thought springing up everywhere. This was the turning point in the popularity of affirmations and lead to many books on self–help being written. Learn how to use positive affirmations to inspire, motivate and change your life. But affirmations are the easiest way to reprogram the subconscious mind. In fact, there is perhaps no simpler way to create the life you desire and deserve than by using The Science of Affirmations. But you have to understand them to know how to use them. Before you can use the power of Affirmations, we have to lay a little groundwork. It starts with self–love and awareness. If you are unhappy or not satisfied with any aspect of your life, it is only because the person you live as every day is not who you really are. Release your old limiting beliefs and stories, and begin to forgive yourself. Recognize that you are worthy and deserving of your dreams and desires. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. America is not one of the most peaceful places, but it is not the most dangerous place to live. Even political parties lie and cheat each other. Leaders need to be honest, trustworthy, respected, and good communicators (Montana & Mitchell, 2005, p. 83). Effective communication is necessary to eliminate confusion. Think how the receiver will interpret the message that you are saying or writing. Effective communication can only occur when the receiver of the message understands what the sender is intending to say. Anyone can manage but not everyone makes a good leader. Being a single mother it is my responsibility to be there for my child regardless of whether she is one or sixteen. My lieutenant called a meeting between us and essentially stated we needed to work it out between the two of us. Knowing this could be a potential career ending move if I did not have a successful accreditation audit, I did what I had to do to get the job done... by myself. At one point I worked seven days per week for seven weeks straight. Needles to say, I ended up working 800 hours overtime that year to prepare our agency. We passed our audit with the best score ever; however, I could not revel in the success. I had never in my life been so disappointed in my leaders. Not having the support of my managers created enormous stress not only in my professional life but in my personal life. I felt I had let my daughter down and I had nowhere to go. • 7. Who Will Stop Me: An Example Essay Who Will Stop Me: An Example Essay A majority of my life has been filled with experiences that I had to fight for. One of the most inspirational women I've discovered in my life so far has been the novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand. The summer before my junior year of high school I stumbled across the following quote by her: "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me." More simply this means that you shouldn't focus on who is going to say yes, it's all about who is going to try and hold you back. For longer than I would like to admit I was a slave to the passive attitude of others that basically allowed me to do whatever I wanted, whether it be succeed innumerably, or skirt by submissively. It wasn't until I...show more content... My parents weren't particularly pleased with my decision at first, however, they supported my decision to re–enter the public school system in the end. The following years really put my belief of not letting outside influences persuade me away from what I loved to the test. Accepting an answer that you don't necessarily like is much less involved than having to step up and say, "No, I deserve this. I've earned it." This proved to be true when I transferred to Satellite High School. Satellite was known for their enhanced musical education programs. Although I didn't know it at the time, it was the people telling me that I would never amount to anything in their top orchestra that really pushed me to find a way to put myself in the first chair seat. Landing last chair my sophomore year was hard to come to terms with. Stepping back to look at the big picture of the situation helped me recognize that it didn't matter who was going to stand behind me as I tried to work my up through the seats within my little section. The only thing I needed to focus on was who was going to put up a fight as I challenged them for their seat. Most people were rather lackadaisical about their music, and moving up through the section wasn't too difficult. I never thought much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my uncle's death. I do not think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with shocking news. It is amazing how we take life for granted. The tragedy never goes away. I need to see with my brother" My mom ran down stairs to get ready to go, I followed her and just stood there, still paralyzed. She hugged me and said that she loved me. I had never seen my mom so panicked. She went into the bathroom to take a shower and I could still hear her sobbing through the door. I was all by myself, now. I was standing in the middle of the family room as the words "He is dead" pierced my heart like daggers of ice. I was screaming OH, GOD NO, and started to cry uncontrollably. The realization that I would never see my uncle again struck me. After I got myself under control I went and packed my things to leave with my mother. As soon as we were done we were on the next flight to New Jersey. I come from a big family with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. As I was standing there all alone I thought back to the time when I got to spend a week with Fran. Almost a year ago to the date, most of the family was together for my other uncle's wedding. Anaerobic exercise is an intense but short amount of exercise (Payment). Since it is only for a brief amount of time, it does not require the amount of oxygen aerobic exercise does. Instead it uses glycogen which comes from the sugar in a person's blood. An example of this exercise is weight lifting or sprinting. This system could be derived from a number of factors: religion, culture, and upbringing. It is difficult enough to determine what an individual's morals are, but going further to determine how we came to possess those morals is even more ambitious. Still, regardless of its difficulty, this subject consumes many philosophers and psychologists. One is the ancient system, a system that developed before humans could speak. This system drives our emotions. It is with this system that humans received their instinctual reactions to specific situations; it is these sorts of "gut reactions" that enabled human survival in ancient times. The other is a modern system, a system that initiated when language was invented. This system, he explains, is more associated with our ability to reason and judge. This system allows us to question our instinctual reactions and determine some explanation as to why we feel a particular way. However, he feels that these two complex systems are subconsciously active within the individual; he does not believe that people are aware of these concepts affecting their morality. These two systems are the key or answer to why moral dumbfounding occurs. It occurs when the two systems conflictВ—when reasoning cannot explain your initial reaction. Furthermore, Haidt believes that emotions are linked more to one's subconscious, while reasoning is linked to one's consciousness. He believes most philosophy focuses too much on the conscious while underestimating the power of the subconscious. In regards to his experiment testing one's disgust for eating one's pet, he believes this disgust originated in ancient times when people first began to eat meat. If someone influences you into doing something like this it is considered a negative peer pressure. This is a major problem in most schools all around the world.
