The Teaching of Language Through Literature

                             Presented By :
                             Jani Amita C.

                             Department of English
Why Literature Only?
How literature helps students while
             language learning?

• Examples :

   1. In the novel Light House the symbol of “Light House”
stands for what? (From – The Light House)
2. Before you begin this book, I have a small request. Right here, note
down three things. Write something that
   1. You fear
   2. Makes you angry and
   3. You don’t like about your self
   4. Be honest, and write something that is meaningful to you.
Do not think too much about why I am asking you to do this. Just
       do it.
       One thing I feel :
One thing that makes me angry :
One thing that I do not like about myself :
Ok, now forget about that exercise and enjoy the story.
3 I was splashing my hands in the water pointlessly in the sea. I can’t
event feel in a pond, let alone in the Indian Ocean. I was in the
water while my boss Bakshi was in a boat next to me. He was
pushing my head down in the water. I saw Priyanka drifting away in
a life boat. I screamed even as Bakshi used both his hands and to
keep my head submerged. Salt water filled mymouth and nostrils as I
heard loud beeps at a distance.
4
The phone started ringing. Everyone’s mouth hung open.
How did this ring without a network?
Esha said, her voice nervous.
Who is it? Radhika said.
Pick it up, I said with my hand stretched out, unable to reasch the dashboard
and unwilling to move to much.
Esha lift the phone. She looked at the screen and gasped.
“Who is it?” I said.
“Do you know someone called… God? It says…God calling,” Esah said.
Thanking you,
