American Tree Medics seeks to help trees suffering from California's drought through their drought response plans and total tree health system. Their certified arborists assess trees, identify issues like lack of water or other environmental stressors, and work with homeowners to create customized plans to save struggling trees. Without treatment, drought-stressed trees often continue to decline and eventually die. American Tree Medics aims to stop further tree deaths by bringing stressed trees back to health.

Winter Burn on Evergreens Damage, Care, and Treatment. Most of our evergreen species are narrow-leaved conifers – pine, spruce, arborvitae, juniper, hemlock, and yew – that have needles or scales for foliage. Unfortunately all of these species can be injured by winter burn and the winter of 2013-14 is proving to be no exception. Winter burn injury has been observed on many evergreen trees and shrubs
Gardeners know that the climate is changing – they can see evidence in their own gardens and landscapes. Drier, hotter summers and unpredictable swings in weather throughout the year are challenging plant survival and soil health. This presentation provides plant management strategies that will help your plants and soils “weather the weather.”
Native plants are perceived as requiring fewer inputs, especially in terms of pesticides, fertilizers, and water. Introduced woody species are increasingly perceived as undesirable, primarily because they are lumped together with their invasive counterparts. How does provenance really affect the ability of plants to provide food and habitat to our beneficial wildlife? This presentation will present a more informed and successful approach to plant selection than simply looking at place of origin.

These venerable giants offer more than just shade and aesthetic beauty; they are essential for our environment, communities, and overall well-being. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of preserving mature trees and provide valuable tips for ensuring their continued health and vitality.
¿Why are trees so important? If we all plant some 10,0000 trees each we can prevent climate catastrophe, regenerate lost soils, increase biodiversity and preserve vital ecosystems & cycles. Trees are the biggest and oldest living beings on Earth. But around 75% of the ancient forest are vanished for human action.
So it's urgent for us to know and understand trees, how to plant them, how to care for them, how to return them to their most important place in nature. In this class we will learn about tree biology and tree functions as well as their influence in our culture.

TREE MEDICS SEEK TO STOP TREE DEATHS IN CALIFORNIA
American Tree Medics Inc Works to Save Trees Despite Lack of Water
Modesto, CA: Forestry experts say millions of trees have died and millions more will die
throughout California due to this year’s drought (Kaplan, 5 May 2015, Washington Post).
A local arborist has discovered a unique system to keep alive trees that are adversely
affected by drought related conditions.
Throughout Modesto and California yards are turning yellow due to watering restrictions.
While grass can grow back, property owners are worried about whether mature trees will
survive the dry conditions. The cost to replace a dead or dying tree can be prohibitive to
property owners. Clyde Eric Britt, certified arborist and active member of the
International Society of Arboriculture, seeks to assure property owners that there are
ways to keep trees alive and thriving despite lack of water.
“We can create a drought response plan to save the tree,” says Britt, founder of
American Tree Medics Inc. “Our drought response plan is part of a Total Tree Health
system. We work with property owners to bring trees suffering from drought related
issues back to optimal health.”
Britt founded American Tree Medics Inc in response to the recent spate of California tree
deaths. American Tree Medics Inc is a Benefit Corporation, a new hybrid company
created for public benefit, similar to a non-profit model. In order to maintain its Benefit
status, the company is required to demonstrate that its business practices are geared to
serve the public’s greater good, in this case, saving trees adversely affected by the
drought.
Britt says the drought does not affect all trees the same. Some of the most hard hit
species are evergreens such as pine trees. Trees that turn yellow or brown prematurely
or drop leaves before autumn signal that a tree is under stress. Often homeowners will
hire tree companies to address the symptoms of tree stress, usually by removing barren
limbs that appear to have “died.”
“Treating the symptoms of stress will not cure the underlying cause,” Britt says. “If you
don’t understand what is causing the stress, the tree will continue to fail and eventually
die.”
Britt recommends that homeowners ask a certified arborist to do a thorough analysis of
any tree that is showing signs of stress. A tree may be stressed due to drought, but there
may be other environmental factors to consider as well including soil and water
conditions or construction features near the tree. By hiring a certified arborist to conduct
a tree analysis, property owners can be assured that they are addressing all the factors
affecting their tree and create a plan to bring the tree back to optimal health.

About American Tree Medics: American Tree Medics Inc has developed a process to
ensure private property owners can keep their trees alive and thriving through the
drought. Property owners are assigned a personal certified arborist who will assess each
tree, provide an arborist assessment, and work with property owners to create a Total
Tree Health plan unique to the property and based on the owner’s budget. American
Tree Medics Inc offers immediate drought response systems for trees in need of
emergency care, automated water conservation systems for ongoing care, and long term
treatments for Total Tree Health.

3. Trees are an investment.
Don’t let drought destroy your landscape!
Save yourself thousands of dollars by being an informed property owner.
Here is what you need to know.
What is an arborist?
An arborist is a professional tree specialist. As with other
professionals, you should look for an arborist that is certified
and licensed. One of the top certifications is through the
International Society of Arboriculture, which requires
arborists to pass rigorous testing and keep their knowledge in
the field up to date.
My trees all appear to be healthy. Why do I need an
arborist?
Think of an arborist as a tree doctor. Arborists can help
ensure your trees stay healthy by identifying the correct
amount and type of watering and nutrients each tree needs
according to its species and its environment. An arborist can
also identify factors that put trees at risk of failure. If left
unchecked, trees that are at risk of failure will ultimately die.
Why should I care if my trees are “at risk of failure”?
Mature trees are an investment for property owners. They
can increase the value of property by as much as $10,000 per
tree. A dead or dying tree can lower property value and cost
property owners thousands of dollars to remedy. Trees that
fail can destroy property if they fall or drop limbs. It can cost
thousands to remove a dead tree.
I already have a landscaping service. Why do I need an
arborist?
Most landscaping services do not have a certified arborist on
staff. In fact, often popular landscaping practices can put your
trees at risk.
I know a guy who will trim my trees for cheap. Why do
I need an arborist?
Just because a tree service (or other landscape service) can
offer a cheap price, does not mean they are doing what’s best
for your tree. Too often, we see trees that have been
improperly trimmed, which can later leads to tree failure.
Trimming a tree properly, in the right way and in the right
season, is just as important as proper watering and
fertilization. Hiring an arborist and receiving quality
professional service today will save you from greater
expenses later on.
How can I tell if my tree is at risk?
Trees that are weakened from lack of water can become
stressed. If this stress goes untreated, the tree may ultimately
die. Death can occur in as quickly as one season of drought. If
you have stopped watering your lawn or simply water it less
than you used to, your trees already are at risk. If your tree is
dropping leaves in spring or summer, if the leaves are a
different color than they should be, or if there are leakages or
holes in the trunk of your tree, you need to give an arborist a
call!
I think my tree is at risk. Can you help?

4. California’s trees are under threat!
More than 12 million trees have died as a direct result of the California’s current drought. i
Millions more are expected to die as the drought continues. ii
Drought – or lack of water – kills some trees. Most trees die of other diseases or pest infestations that occur
because the trees are too stressed by drought to fend off some of these diseases and infestations.
Dead and dying trees are expected to raise the risk of wildfires, fueling more fires over larger areas.iii
Why are trees important?
For the environmentiv
:
Trees clean the air! They absorb harmful CO2 and other pollutant gases, and provide oxygen. In one year, an
acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people.
Trees cool us down! Trees reduce the urban “heat island” effect by releasing water vapor in the air and provide
shading. A tree shading a home can reduce the need for air conditioning by up to 50 percent. Tree shade can
also reduce exposure to harmful UV-B radiation.
Trees help keep water clean and prevent soil erosion! John Muir claimed that sequioias create high country
streams by providing a ecological microenvironment that retains and filters water sourcesv
. Tree roots and root
systems hold soil in place on hillsides and stream slopes, keeping erosion at bay.
Trees provide canopies and habitats for wildlife, even in urban settings.
For our health:
Trees can help us be healthy. A University of Chicago study revealed a correlation between living in
neighborhoods with trees and better health outcomes. People who lived in tree-filled neighborhoods had fewer
heart conditions or incidents of cancer, diabetes or other diseasevi
. A Japanese study found that exposure to
forests, or inhaling wood essential oils, reduces stress and anxiety by lowering cortisol concentrations, lowering
pulse rates, lowering blood pressurevii
.
For our properties and pocketbooks:
Trees can increase property values by up to $10,000 per tree.viii
Mature trees on a property or in a surrounding
neighborhood can increase property values by as much as 15 percent.ix
Trees can provide resources and business opportunities through the sale of fruit, nuts, mulch and wood, or the
planting and care of trees.
Trees can increase traffic to businesses by attracting customers on foot and by slowing car traffic on the street.
