2. Salem
Salem is well known for its witch trials.
It was the year 1692 and things were
tense in Salem village. At that time a
lot of people were scared,
superstitious, and mad. That is where
we get to the part about the witch
trials It all started when the priest
accused Goody (the name of the
beggar in the village) of being a witch.
She was put on trial and then hung.
Many other people were accused and
put in jail even though they were not
guilty.
Later in the year, a prominent citizen
came to the village. He said that none
of the people were witches. All the
people in jail were let go.

3. The Boston Massacre
The Boston massacre took place on
March 5 1770. 7 shots were fired but
3 people died and 8 were wounded.
The first shot was accidental. This
event was one of the sparks that led to
the Revolutionary War.
The picture to the right is an engraving
done by Paul Revere. It shows the
Boston massacre.

4. Paul Revere
When you think about Paul Revere you
probably think about some famous guy
riding a horse down the road yelling
‘The British are coming, the British are
coming.” Well if that is what you are
thinking you’re wrong.
This is the story of Paul Revere:
It is 10:00pm on April 18th, 1775 or the
day before the Revolutionary War
begins. Paul Revere has just been
called to his friend’s house. Paul
Revere and William Dawes are both
Sons of Liberty. Revere and Dawes are
both going to ride to Lexington and
Concord. Paul Revere takes the route
that crosses the Charles River. Dawes
is assigned to go the longer way
through the Boston neck. The Sons of
Liberty set up a signal to warn the
people.

6. Minute Men
A minute man is a person in the militia
that has to be able to get ready in
exactly one minute. The militia were
on the side of the colonists during the
Revolutionary War. To do so a minute
man must carry his weapon and/or
arms with him at all times or, so to
speak 24/7.
No matter what they were doing have
to stop and go to the meeting place if
the bell ever rang. To be ready the
militia used British drills and did the
same training they did.

7. Iron mill
The Saugus iron mill was the first iron
mill in North America. These are the
stages of making iron:
1. Water turned the water wheels
which pumped the bellows which
kept the fire hot
2. Bog iron and gabbrow were put
into the fire and heated up so
they melted together
3. The metal was then taken out and
put onto a mat and pounded into
a cube.
4. The cube was then put under a
large hammer and hammered
until it was inches thick. That
rod was called a merchants bar.
5. The merchants bar was taken to a
rolling and sitting building. There
it was put into another machine
which thinned it out or cut it so it
was skinnier.
6. Next the rods were either shipped
out or made into tools for the iron
works. Some of those tools were
nails, chains, hooks, axes, and Simean Chambers The American Revolution
