Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas in 1897 and grew interested in flying in the early years of her life. She helped found The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots, and started her career as an aviator and author. Her final flight attempted to circumnavigate the globe but ended when she disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean in 1937.
