2. ABOUT IIT GANDHINAGAR
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT GN), Gujarat
started its journey in 2008 with the belief of building approaches
by promoting innovative research and entrepreneurship.
While IIT GN was in its nascent stages in its temporary campus, it
began carving a niche for itself amongst technical and research
oriented institutions. It was bestowed The World Education
Award’13 by The World Education Summit for its innovations
in engineering education. The progress of the institute further
accelerated after its transition to the new campus. IIT GN hosted
COCOA 2016- a first time in India. It stood 8th in a survey of
Best Engineering Colleges in India 2016 conducted by MHRD,
Government of India. It also organized The Indo-Chinese Young

The need for a better life has always driven man to inexplicable
heights, compelling him to find motivation in the shallowest of
depths and hope in the darkest of corners. As we are advancing
further down the road of development, the challenges are only
becoming more unfathomable and demanding. The need for
creative means of problem solving has increased exponentially
in the last decade. Technology forms a medium, providing a
basis for tackling the challenges faced in the present world.
The objective of Amalthea ‘16 is to bring out the simple
correspondence between technology and development based
on the theme ‘Technologizing Challenges’ and spread knowledge
- the ultimate aim of Amalthea. Amalthea ‘16 will feature a
Conclave on the same theme for the speakers to share their
generation of ideas , an Exhibition on ‘Expediting Development
Through Tech and Innovation’, a Symposium on ‘Technologies in
Defense and Internal Security’ and many other engaging events.
ABOUT AMALTHEA‘16
4. It’s the Light of Technology that
purges the darkness of Challenges.
07
Amalthea is the annual technical summit of IIT Gandhinagar.
Amalthea, in its literal sense is the goat who suckled the Greek
God Zeus when he was a baby and is also the name of one of the
Jupiter’s moons. The horn of Amalthea, which is the cornucopia
was broken off and filled with endless food and drink. Here we
symbolise Amalthea as spreading an abundance of knowledge
and prospering through technology. We aim to touch lives and
inspire creative thinking by showcasing ideas and thoughts
through this event.

5. Amalthea ’16 hosts the second edition of Symposium, a step
forward towards realizing its vision - ‘Spreading Knowledge’.
Symposium provides a platform for research scholars and
technology enthusiasts, with common interests and passions,
to share and discuss their research. The audience is invited to
present their research and find mentors in the speakers. `
This edition of Symposium focuses on ‘Technologies in Defence
and Internal Security’, a field where constant technological
advancement is the need of the hour. In this Symposium, we
seek to address the multifaceted issues and technologies that
are associated with our country’s defence frontier, bringing
together multiple disciplines and seeking out answers by
marrying industry with academic pursuits.

The Conclave at Amalthea champions the power of ideas and
perseverance. It creates an atmosphere that is conducive to
innovation, inquisition and creativity. Conclave invites thinkers,
ideators, and leaders in industry and academia to share their
experiences, expertise and research with aspiring individuals.
The theme of the Conclave in Amalthea ‘16 is “Technologizing
Challenges”. When we think of challenges, we think of innovation
and technology. Technology would not be that exciting without
challenges and challenges would not be the same without
technology. “Technologizing Challenges” aims to explore the art
of pursuing ideas and of overcoming the uncertainties of the
unexplored.
