Our theatrical design concept for the play Medea depicts nature overtaking through the metaphor of kudzu vines. The set, costumes, and lighting will show kudzu vines growing and spreading to represent Medea's increasing control and rage over the plot. Jason is costumed in tweed to appear disingenuous while the chorus wears simple outfits matching their characters. By the end, Medea will be completely covered in kudzu to symbolize her dominance. The set, lighting, and ground plan sketches show how kudzu will seemingly take over the stage as the play progresses.
