The Allosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Jurassic period 150-140 million years ago. It grew up to 40 feet long and weighed between 2 to 4 tons, making it one of the largest predators of its time. The Allosaurus ate other dinosaurs like Stegosaurus and Iguanodon. Over 60 fossils of Allosaurus have been found in locations such as Colorado, South Dakota, Africa, New Mexico and Utah. The dinosaur was first identified and named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1877.
