1. Aluminum Supplier Aleris Gets Aligned
with DSP
Dearborn Stamping Plant (DSP) hosted aluminum supplier Aleris to provide them a
better understanding of the requirements and procedures used at the plant.
A third of the aluminum issues DSP encounters is related to material. Aluminum is
a more sensitive material than steel and requires higher standards and new
processes to properly run through the presses.
By exposing the suppliers to the operations at DSP, the expectation is that the
aluminum defects will be prevented and ultimately eliminated. “The more
aluminum we can optimize, the more parts we can make,” said Theron McGee,
DSP Quality Engineer.
Aleris currently uses a calibration system and cameras in their facilities to defects
in the aluminum.
“As a Supplier who is expanding their North American offering into exposed or
outer body panels, the idea of tactile checks together with the light oil application
will help us get our eyes and hands tuned in to Ford’s requirements,” said Rich
Hirsh, Aleris Corporation.
Overall, the experience is beneficial for both DSP and Aleris as their alignment will
lead to higher quality production for the FSeries.
