Albrecht Dürer created a 4x4 magic square where the sums of each row, column, diagonal, and the four center numbers is 34. This magic square uses the numbers 1 through 16, and has remained magic regardless of how the numbers are rotated within the square. Dürer created the magic square in 1514, which corresponds to his initials using the alphabetic positions of "D" as the 4th letter and "A" as the 1st letter.
