Fitter, happier, more productive: How tech can help us be & do betterLauren Bacon
I gave this talk to the Vancouver User Experience group on April 30, 2013. It's about designing technology in a way that builds people's strengths rather than exploiting their weaknesses. Here's an excerpt that sums up the key message - though out of context it may sound a little more Pollyanna-ish than it will if you listen to the whole talk.
"What if our work helped people create something they were proud of… or behave more like their favourite teacher… or do something generous for someone else?
"What if we just made it easier to sit still and pay attention to your breathing?
"What would the world look like if we built more apps like that?"
This document appears to be satirical, mocking someone who exaggerates their achievements and accomplishments. It summarizes 3 supposed achievements that are then contradicted by "Reality Checks". It goes on to satirize the person's claimed time at IIMB, relationships, and birthday party in a similar fashion. The overall intent seems to be humorously highlighting someone who greatly inflates their resume.
International Journal of Computational Engineering Research (IJCER) is dedicated to protecting personal information and will make every reasonable effort to handle collected information appropriately. All information collected, as well as related requests, will be handled as carefully and efficiently as possible in accordance with IJCER standards for integrity and objectivity.
This document provides links to websites for the different branches of the U.S. federal government. It includes links to the White House and executive branch, the legislative branch including the Senate and House of Representatives, and the judicial branch including federal courts. It also includes links to related sites like the Library of Congress and Government Printing Office.

But that was an awesome experience, such an adrenalin rush.

The document discusses new technologies for male bladder control and the limitations of current methods. It introduces Liberty as the first new male bladder control method in 50 years. Current methods like diapers, catheters, and condom catheters increase risks of infection, skin damage, and social stigma. Liberty aims to provide a safer, simpler solution for bladder control.
Fat is an important energy source stored in adipose cells. It is energy dense, yielding 9.13 kcal/g, and supplies can last for weeks as it is stored dry unlike carbohydrates. Triglycerides are the main storage form, composed of a glycerol backbone and three fatty acids like palmitic or stearic acid. Fat metabolism involves both catabolic pathways that break down fat and anabolic pathways that synthesize fat. While some steps may be shared, the pathways are distinct and regulated to turn pathways on and off. Insulin promotes fat synthesis while epinephrine and glucagon stimulate lipolysis during fasting.

InfCare HIV is built to fill three primary needs: Giving the clinician a better overview of the individual patient, giving a tool for making clinical decisions. Making it possible to evaluate the clinics quality vs goals and quality indiciators, and giving the clinic possibility to benchmark vs other clinics, or their own historic data. All quality assurance data is given in real time, tha analyses are made the same second as you ”push the button”. Creating a research database, among other things making it easier to find patients for clinical research. What you see above fills the first need, giving the physician a decision support tool regarding the individual patient.
Showing the ”pass over effect”, you see the value of the individual ”dot”
Same effect, concerning the given drugs.
Showing the symbol for resistance tests.
After clicking the symbol, the mutations from that test.
Showing the EU resist start button. Pressing the button sends the sequence, RNA-data, CD-4 data and other clinical data to the EU resist system. The analysis takes approximately 15-20 seconds.
Result from clicking the button.
Corresponding result from Stanford.
This is an example on how the real time quality assurance page for the clinic can look like. Data from the test server, that is the reason why there are so few patients. In Sweden, the system has helped the physicians to work against common goals, and to evaluate the results extremely easily. The goals are (als seen above): Patients who have been treated at least 6 months, RNA < 50*: The national goal is that at least 85% of the patients on the clinic should be below 50 copies. Patients who have been treated at least 6 months, CD4 < 350*: Max 10% should be below 350. Untreated patients with CD4 < 350* No patients with CD4 below 350 should be untreated.
An excerpt from the search tool, showing a question that will give you all the patients who have a HIV RNA above 49 and a total cholesterol above 5. You can of course ask more complex questions, you can principally combine all the fields that are in the system.
The patients that corresponded to the query. At this stage you can choose between different reports regarding the created cohort. In the current version all the reports are in excel format, after the summer we will launch functionality that lets you create reports in SAS and SPSS formats as well.
