AIM 8000 Series
Automated Inspection Machine for Vials, Cartridges,
Syringes and Ampoules
The AIM 8000 Series Inspection Machine employs two
high-end technologies to deliver a comprehensive
inspection solution offering unprecedented accuracy
and efficiency:
1. Light-Transmission-Based SD Equipment
for the inspection of particulates in low- to medium-
viscosity liquids, as well as the inspection of fill levels.
2. Camera-Based Equipment
for the inspection of particulates in liquids (including
high viscosity media and suspensions), lyophilized
products, container cosmetic defects and liquid fill level.
Inspects containers up to 95 mm in diameter, for particulates in liquids and cosmetic
container defects as well as lyophilized products at rates up to 600 per minute.
The modular design of the machine allows flexibility
in equipping stations with light-transmission and/or
camera-based inspection systems.
3. AIM 8000 Series – Automated Inspection Machine | 3
The revolutionary modular design and construction
of the AIM 8000 Series allow rapid customization of the
equipment according to each customer’s requirement,
allowing faster delivery from time of order.
Functional modularity:
A variety of inspection stations exists to cover the
different inspection types of particulates and cosmetic
defects. Each station consists of appropriate
combination of cameras, illumination units and optical
elements, designed to adapt to every customer need
with minimal engineering effort. In-feed and out-feed
are designed to customer requirements.
Modular Design
for flexible adaptation to customer requirements
Electromechanical modularity:
The machine consists of three modules which can
interface mechanically, electrically and functionally.
▶ Main Module: This inspection module can accommo-
date up to eight inspection stations*. It provides all
functions necessary for stand-alone operation includ-
ing the central inspection table, the in-feed/out-feed
units, all core drives and vision systems. Control
components and the main computer are enclosed in a
separate cabinet.
▶ Sub Module: This is an additional module with
capacity up to five inspection stations*. This second-
ary inspection module can be fully integrated with the
Main Module at any future date.
▶ Pre-spin Module: A conditioning unit that is linked
to the main module. The Pre-spin module employs
electromechanical drive systems to spin viscous
liquids and suspensions at high speeds, homogenize
the product and help remove air bubbles.
* The number of inspection stations depends on product types
4. 4 | AIM 8000 Series – Automated Inspection Machine
Camera-Based and Light-Transmission-Based
Inspection Technologies for Particulates in Liquids
In-liquid particulates:
Particulate materials are detected either by the SD system
or an optical system composed of two high resolution
CMOS area cameras.
Camera Technology
▶ CMOS area camera
▶ Confocal Tandem 2-camera configuration
▶ Dual LED stroboscopic light
Bosch offers two state-of-art inspection technologies.
Camera-based inspection
Particulates are detected by a vision system based on two
high resolution CMOS area cameras in confocal tandem
configuration. Image capture timing of each camera is alter-
nately synchronized with dual LED illumination, enabling
independent capture of transmitted light and reflected light
particle images from the same container. As result, the
camera system performs 2 inspection types on a single
station, saving valuable space on the inspection table.
Light-transmission-based inspection technology
The SD (Static Division) light transmission system of the
AIM 8000 series distinguishes static from moving
objects, minimizing the false reject. Containers are rota-
ted at high speed and then stopped, setting any particles
in motion by inertia within a stationary container. LED
light projected from a narrow, vertically-oriented source
passes through the liquid, onto a corresponding array of
high resolution SD image sensors. Any particulates in the
moving solution interrupt the light beam, casting a sha-
dow onto the image sensor array, which registers precise
particle locations as electronic signals.
Floating particulates:
Impurities in the meniscus are inspected by CMOS line
array cameras. Specific algorithms discriminate particles
from light reflections off the liquids surface
▶ CMOS line camera
▶ LED illumination with light diffusion panel
Sunken particulates:
Heavy particles remaining at the bottom of the container
are detected with area cameras
▶ CCD area camera
▶ LED illumination

Body integrity:
Physical defects or stains
at container shoulder,
main body and heel are
inspected using two CCD
area cameras positioned
to detect imperfections.
Crimp and
neck integrity:
Integrity of the vial seal is
inspected with CMOS
line cameras.
Camera-Based Inspection Technology
for Cosmetic Container Defects
Camera system for cosmetic container inspection
The camera system inspects for cracks, stains and other
container defects. The latest CCD and CMOS camera
technologies in combination with specially designed
optics and LED lighting are applied for accurate inspec-
tion of container defects.
Our extensive expertise in inspection technology allows
us to define the optimal configuration to meet the most
challenging customers’ requirements.

6. 6 | AIM 8000 Series – Automated Inspection Machine
Puck system – container transport system
During inspection, containers are conveyed by circulating
pucks, developed for smooth handling along the transport
path. Risks of container damage is reduced by decreased
contact with hard surfaces. For container size changeover,
pucks are easily exchanged by a semiautomatic loading/
unloading mechanism. The use of pucks allows dramatic
decrease of changeover parts. This contributes to shorter
machine idle time and less workload of operators.
Direct spin
The rate at which each container is spun, and the resulting
movement of liquid in each container, is controlled
precisely and independently by individual servo motors
under each container position on the table. This allows easy
and accurate adjustments according to viscosity of the
liquid and size/volume of the container. Such flexibility
enables increased particle detection rate according to the
inspected product. Software settings accessible through
the HMI screen allow rapid and accurate adjustment of spin
rates, optimizing inspection parameters while reducing
set-up time.
Additional Advanced Features
HMI
The Human Machine Interface software (HMI) allows for
ease of operation, parameter setting and results display
in a secure setting which meets FDA guideline for 21
CFR Part 11 compliance.
Both HMI and Vision software run on a single, industrial
computer under Windows 7 embedded operating
system.
A multi-language program is provided in full color on
a 21.5 widescreen touch-panel display.
Combination with Bosch Leak Detection Technologies
Leak Detection modules can be fully integrated into AIM
8000 Series. The appropriate technology is offered
based on customers‘ requirements.
Ergonomic and hygienic design
Reduced maintenance and cleaning efforts due to the
ergonomic and hygienic design, as well as fast and
easy changeover give you more time for your actual
production.
