Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating a great deal of hype, excitement and fear. But what is AI exactly? And how can it be used to solve business problems? This infographic is based on the Practical Artificial Intelligence book, download your free copy here: http://goo.gl/KQMB2H
The role of ICTs for environmental observation. Collecting and helping to interpret and model the environment and more specifically the climate are key to climate action. Wireless sensor networks, the IoT, embedded microprocessors, remote sensing and earth observation systems, etc. are described. Today, they continue to be very important and their role and use os growing.
Slide presentations developed to demonstrate how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) be used to address climate change, and why ICTs are a crucial part of the solution – i.e. in promoting efficiency, Green Growth & sustainable development, in dealing with climate change and for climate and environmental action. These slide presentations were delivered in February 2011 in Seongnam, near Seoul in Korea.
These presentations were developed and delivered over 2.5 days on the occasion of a Regional Training of Trainers Workshop for upcoming Academy modules on ICT for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Abatement. These modules were developed as part of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government leaders developed by the United Nations (UN) Asia Pacific Centre for ICT Training (APCICT), based in Songdo City, in the Republic of South Korea.
These presentations were developed in 2011, and are somewhat out of date, but most of the principles still apply. Module 10, which has been published, does not include much of the information outlined in these presentations, which are fairly technical. They were developed to address a significant gap in understanding of the technical basis of using ICTs for climate action and because there is a clear bias in development circles against the importance of dealing with climate change mitigation in developing countries. These presentations are an attempt to redress this lack and are published here with this purpose in mind.
The author, Richard Labelle, is presently working on updating these presentations to further highlight the importance of addressing climate change and the important role that technology including ICTs, play in this effort.

The API Economy is exploding, and this presentation explains how to extend your brand, accelerate new channel adoption and operate with API best practices.
Digital is disrupting the physical world with new business models. In this presentation from SOA Software VP of Product Marketing, Sachin Agarwal, learn how APIs are used to drive new digital channels securely and safely.
Both SOA and API management technology have important things to say about the future capabilities of your IT infrastructure. API technology brings a strong focus to the consumption of your backend IT resources within a well-managed community of API developers and mobile app developers.
The enterprise has learned from the consumer API movement and recognized the value of creating developer communities to drive the adoption and productive use of APIs. Building an API community internally, however, requires a different approach from what has worked in the consumer space. Business objectives for APIs and measurements of success tend to be different for internal APIs. Security and access controls are not the same, of course, and back-end systems tend to be quite a lot more complex in the enterprise than they are in public-facing API situations. This webinar explores the challenges and best practices inherent in building an internal API community that serves an enterprise’s business and technological goals.

IoT the driver of Business Innovation: better products, new services and...Eurotech
The IoT is the manifestation that the raw material of the information age is data. Data is the new source of innovation and the lever to achieve business sustainability. By extracting data from assets and products, companies can become more efficient through a strategic rethinking of their value chains and business processes. In so doing, companies will add the required readiness to shift from products to services, and eventually enter in the outcome economy. To truly embrace the digital transformation, organizations need to collect actionable data from their assets, processes, and products and then connect the OT world where data are generated to IT world where data are consumed. To make this happen, a IoT integration platform, that gives to the App an easy and versatile access to the data, is required . As a matter of fact the IoT essence resides in an impressive simplification of the OT-IT integration through a loosely coupled containerized layered (LC2L) architecture. The benefits are huge: the transformation of any business into a smart business, increasing competitiveness also in mature markets; the creation of new innovative products and services; and the enablement of service prosumerization. Abundance of data is the real essence of IoT, where the App is the tip of the data iceberg.

AWS July Webinar Series: Overview: Build and Manage your APIs with Amazon API...Amazon Web Services
How do you create APIs? When publishing a new API there are a lot of factors to consider: Versioning, Network Management, Authorization, Ecosystem Management, and finally client SDKs.
Amazon API Gateway is a fully managed service that makes it easy for developers to publish, maintain, monitor, and secure APIs at any scale. With Amazon API Gateway, you can quickly declare an API interface and connect it to existing web services running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) or code running on AWS Lambda, and generate an SDK for client applications to access the API. Amazon API Gateway handles all the tasks involved in accepting and processing up to hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls, including traffic management, authorization and access control, monitoring, and API version management. Amazon API Gateway has no minimum fees or startup costs, and you pay only for the API calls you receive and the amount of data transferred.
Learning Objectives:
Learn how to create APIs in the AWS Cloud without managing a single server with AWS Lambda
Learn how to manage stages and versions of your APIs
Learn how to map parameters and transform data in flight

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
