5. Background
The 2016 annual action plan identifies, as a community
benefit, improving access to mental/behavioral health
providers, in particular, to the poor and vulnerable.
In March 2014, Agnesian HealthCare successfully
transitioned Beyond Boundaries of Autism (BBA) from
Goodwill Industries to its family.
At time of transition, Agnesian Beyond Boundaries
Autism (ABBA) had 73 clients. All clients transferred and
not a day of service was lost…transition window was
three months.
6. Background, cont.
The former day care center building, located in the southern
area of the Division Street campus, had been vacant since
closing in June 2014.
Dr. Darold Treffert is a world renowned expert in autism and
savant syndrome. Many families with a Savant member have
travelled great distances to see Dr. Treffert in Fond du Lac. Dr.
Treffert operated his “Savant Institute” out of his home.
Dr. Treffert was 82 years old, and a legacy/succession plan had
not existed until now. He and his family are deeply committed
to transferring his unique knowledge, skills and vast
research for this vulnerable population.

The Treffert Academy teaches the three strongest
predictors for future health and life success; self-
regulation, social-emotional skills and empathy to
all children, in a movement and play-based
integrated setting.
The creative curriculum forms the foundation of
our instruction with all staff cross-trained in autism
services.
19. ECCP
ECCP, at its essence, is about helping
children manage their big feelings, and
helping teachers and caregivers respond to
outbursts - an inevitable fact of preschool
life - with patience, understanding and
respect - not with big feelings of their own.
Yoga, mindfulness, social emotional skills,
self-regulation, relaxation training and
breathing.

22. Why the Academy
is for ALL children
Ratio of census isn’t different than other care
centers. Same as in public schools.
We have providers to assist with individual needs.
No fear with typical children learning “bad” habits -
Empathy is learned.
We identify and work on exceptional skills as well.
Bringing out talents and islands of genius in us all!
Lessons of inclusiveness: Steven Wilshire and
students.
