Do you enjoy reading magazines?
Or reading articles dealing with your
favorite athlete?
Maybe you enjoy politics...
Well, the
media chooses
to share the
information
they believe
the public
would find
interesting.
Agenda- setting theory is an
idea, which states that intense
media attention increases the
importance of certain
topics, issues, and individuals.
This is known as the…
So easy a caveman understands…
Media picks the information they believe the
viewers will find more entertainment from.
WOW!
In 1972, a study was done by Max McCombs and
Donald Shaw in Chapel Hill, NC dealing with
mass media during a campaign and how
agenda-setting function was used in mass
media.
Without this theory media
may give you information
you do not care about.
That’s right, boring!
Some critics say that there is
no evidence to show the
connection between the order
of importance placed on
issues, by the media, and the
significance attached to those
issues by the public.
Next time you read a
magazine, listen to
speeches during the
next campaign, or even
watch the
news, remember that
the media chose that
specific bit of new
information specifically
for you, and the
majority of consumer
preferences.
