➔ Goals and Objectives:
Goal: helping parents better understand their child's diagnosis and how to cope with their

Objective 1: How to set up a proper care plan (IEP, insurance sources, transportation)
Objective 2: How to better support one another in the home (spouse support, sibling support)
➔ Outline with approx. times: Nov, 5th 2016
Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided and available during the entire seminar

9:05am-9:30am: Icebreaker #1 Potty Tales
9:30am-9:45am: Setting up care plans
9:45am-10:00am: Writing questions for activity 1 plus talking and making connections between
parents
10:05am-10:10am: Bathroom break, opportunity to move around, check cell phones, etc.
10:10am-10:25am: Family support
10:25am-10:50am: Reviewing what was learned with activity 2
10:50am-11:00am: Questions and comments while parents fill out a brief feedback form
➔ Describe all of the activities you will be having them participate in:
Icebreakers: Potty Tales: rolls of toilet paper will be passed around, each parent is allowed to
take as many sheets as they think they need. Once everyone has their toilet paper they will be
asked to say one positive characteristic of their child per toilet paper sheet!
Activity one: Question Board: 3 colored sheets (green, blue, yellow) will be posted in the front
of the room, each parent will be given a sticky note and will be asked to write a question about
an emotional (green board), physical (blue board), or financial (yellow board) problem(s) they
might have. Throughout the workshop we will be randomly choosing a sticky note and
answering the questions. This will help keep the audience interested and help change the pace.
Activity Two: Family Trashketball: the audience breaks into groups of 4, each group is given
mini basketballs. The facilitator will then ask questions about family support inside the home.
The first team to make a basket gets to answer the question. Each basket= 2 points. The first
team to reach 20 points receives a gift!
