BCPS AED Program AEDs are in all Elementary  Schools Middle  Schools High  Schools  /  Athletics Offices  /  Bus  Lots
Automated External Defibrillators “AED” Computerized device for use in cardiac medical emergencies Used in combination with CPR may increase a victim’s chance of survival Units at BCPS will not shock a person with a functional heartbeat
BCPS Trained Personnel in Each School: School Nurses Certified Health Assistants CPR / First Aid Back-up Certified Athletic Trainers Coaches
American Heart Association’s Chain of Survival Early Access / Call 911 Early CPR Early Defibrillation / AED Early Advanced Care The AED must be used  as  part  of the chain!
All Employees Can Help in An Emergency  Activate your school’s Medical Emergency Plan Immediately notify the school nurse or other CPR trained employee  Clear all staff and students from the area Identify a staff member to meet EMS at the door of your school
Location of AEDs Location of AED(s) at our school In cabinets – alarm will sound when door is open Grab the handle of the unit – all supplies are attached to the unit AEDs are for school grounds use only – not to be sent on field trips, to sports events, etc
Good Samaritan Law Law  that  encourages  individuals  to voluntarily  help  an  injured  or  suddenly  ill  person. CPR / AED skills can assist you to help someone during a medical emergency
