1. Advert by the Corporation Against Cancer, its
Purpose is to persuade and inform people why they
Shouldn’t smoke.
It is controversial as it shows a distressing image of
A child.
Smokers with children may dislike it as they
May act more responsibly and do not want to be
Portrayed as murdering their children.
More shocking than offensive, gets the message
Across effectively as the picture is distressing and
Can cause upset.
Smokers may find it offensive as they do not want
To be shown as murderers, most people may not find it
Offensive, just shocking.
2. Advert by Sisley, the fashion
Company.
The purpose is to convince
People that their clothing is so
Good that they will get addicted
To it.
Very controversial as it is using
Drug addiction as a way of
Promoting their clothes ‘Fashion
Junkie’. Ex- drug addicts may find
This offensive or families of drug
Addicts as they know how hard it
Is to get out of/quit.
Seen as quite insensitive to drug
Addicts.
It is quite an offensive to a small minority
Of people, does dis-respect/ promote drug
Use.
3. Advert by Prius- a car company
Purpose is to persuade you to buy
their cars.
More funny/witty than controversial,
not a very serious advert.
Older generations may find it more
offensive than younger people, they
may think that it is condoning
murdering someone as long as you
drive that car.
I think it is an effective advert at
making us laugh, and not very
offensive.
4. Purpose of the advert is to inform
people of this situation. Also to
persuade us to come forward about
this situation.
Victims of violent crime may find
this image distressing and offensive
as it may bring back bad memories,
controversial to them.
It is effective in my opinion as it
shows that everyone can be
effected and that beauty is not
everything.
Not particularly offensive as it does
not condone this behaviour, it
highlights the issue. More of a
shocking advert.
5. Advert probably by the police or
neighbourhood watch scheme.
Purpose to advise you not to take
on the phone whilst driving.
It is controversial in some
aspects. For example it says
‘while she drives’ this may imply
that women are worse drivers
than men. Also controversial due
to the blood coming out of the
phone, very gory and distressing.
Victims of car accidents of
families who have lost loved ones
may find this particularly
upsetting to see.
It is effective however at getting the
message across about not talking on the
phone whilst driving.
6. Picture taken by The Guardian
Purpose to advise people to just
enjoy life and take it as it comes.
Very controversial especially to
people of a religious faith. They
may find it highly offensive as
they believe in a god.
It is effective at portraying the
message but it highly offensive to
all religions who believe in a god.
Not offensive in my opinion as I
am not religious, but I can see
how others will find this
offensive.
7. Picture taken by The Guardian
Purpose to persuade women to
stay at home and not work.
Very controversial as it is saying
that any women that work are bad
mothers. Also suggesting that all
women have to stay at home in
order to be good parents. Women
will find this highly offensive.
It is also offensive in my opinions
as times have changed and more
women want to follow a career.
Effective as getting their message
across and provoking a reaction.
