New Chromecast Setup Guide
SET UP ESSENTIALS

A display device with an HDMI input, for example, a high-definition television
(HDTV)
Access to an available power outlet or an available (non-service) USB port on your
HDMI-enabled display
Access to a secure wireless network (make sure you have the wireless network
password handy)
For Chromecast (1st generation), connection to a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4G network.
For Chromecast, connection to a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac 2.4/5G network.

• A compatible Android or iOS device or tablet, or Mac, Windows or
Chromebook computer (see list below). Note: The compatible Android, iOS, or
tablet setup device must support a 5GHz connection in order to set up a
Chromecast on a 5GHz connection.
• Availability and performance of certain features, services and applications are
device- and network-dependent and may not be available in all areas;
subscription(s) may be required, and additional terms, conditions and/or
charges may apply.

• Plug in your Chromecast device. Change the input on your TV remote
until you see the Set me up card on your screen. This is done using
the Input, Source, or Menu button. You may have to cycle through a
few inputs before finding the correct one (e.g. HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.)
• Install the Google Cast app by navigating
to chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported Android
device.

• Tap ACCEPT to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
• If you're not signed into a Google account, tap SIGN IN to personalize
your features for a better Google Cast experience. Then tap Allow
Email Notifications for tips & tricks, offers, and more sent straight to
your email. Tap CONTINUE.
• If you're already signed into a Google account, tap Allow Email
Notifications for tips & tricks, offers, and more sent straight to your
email. Tap CONTINUE.

• Touch DEVICES and choose the Chromecast you want to set up.
Touch Set Up.
• Touch Set Up.
• Make sure the code on your device matches the code on your
TV. Touch I See the Code.

• Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast to something
distinct by deleting the current name and typing in a new
name. Note: Guest mode and Send Chromecast usage data and crash
reports to Google are enabled by default. If you don't want to enable
them, touch the check marks next to their corresponding
prompts. Touch Set Name.

• Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to your Chromecast.
Enter password. Touch Set Network.
• If your Chromecast needs an update, it will automatically update at
this time and will let you know when the update is complete. Here’s
more information on updates to your Chromecast in case the update
is taking longer than expected.
• After the update is compete, you are ready to cast. Touch Browse
Your Cast Apps! Here's how to start casting apps to your TV.

• Launch app to read Privacy and Terms. Touch Accept.
• Highly recommended: Turn on Bluetooth to help improve the set up
process.
• If Bluetooth is ON, touch DEVICES and choose the Chromecast you
want to set up. Touch Set Up. Touch Next.Skip to Step 9.

• If Bluetooth is OFF, touch DEVICES. Touch ADD NEW DEVICE. You will
be prompted to turn Bluetooth on. Touch Settings and turn on
Bluetooth. Then return to the Google Cast app. Choose the device
you want to set up. Touch Set Up. Touch Next. Skip to step 9.
• If you don't want to turn Bluetooth on, go to the DEVICES tab and
touch Add New Device. Touch OK.

Choose the device you want to set up.
1. Touch your iPhone’s Home button > Go to your iOS Settings > Wi-Fi
2. Connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast device.
Look for something like ChromecastXXXX.
3. Navigate back to the Google Cast app. Your device should now be
detected. Touch Next.

The code on your phone should match the code on your TV. Touch I See
the Code.
Select your region. Touch Next.
Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast to something distinct by
deleting the current name and typing in a new name. Note: Guest mode
is enabled by default. If you don't want to enable guest mode, touch the
check mark. Touch Set Name.

• Make sure you're using the latest version of Chrome by navigating to
“Settings > About Google Chrome” and update your Chrome browser
to the latest version, if necessary. If you're having trouble, here's how
to update Chrome.
• Navigate to chromecast.com/setup from the Chrome browser on
your computer.

• In order to set up Chromecast from your computer, you need to
install the latest Google Cast extension.
• If you don’t have the Google cast extension installed, download
the Google Cast extension.

• Once installed, in the top right corner of your Chrome browser, you
should see the Cast button. Inactive cast extension
• Once you have the Google cast extension installed, go back
to Chromecast.com/setup and click the link to “Set up from this
Computer”.
• Chrome will now look for Chromecast devices that need to be set up.

• Click the device that matches the Chromecast name you see on your
TV. It will be something like ChromecastXXXX. ClickSet Me Up.
• Go to your Wi-Fi menu and select the Wi-Fi network that matches
your Chromecast device name. Important: Make sure you’ve
successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network before moving to the
next step. This can take a few minutes.Note: You’ll lose your Internet
connection for few minutes until setup is complete. This is expected.

• Click Next.
• The code on your device should match the code on your TV. If it
does, click Yes.
• If it doesn’t match, click No and restart the setup process from step 5
above.

• Change the name of your Chromecast by typing in a new name (ex.
Living Room) or you can leave it as the default name. Choose your
country. Click Looks Good.
• Choose your Wi-Fi network by clicking the upside down arrow. Enter
your password. Click Connect.

• Go back to your Wi-Fi menu and choose your Wi-Fi network.
Important: Make sure you’ve successfully connected to the Wi-Fi
network before moving on to the next step. This can take a few minutes.
• Click Next.

• Once setup has successfully completed, you will see a blue banner
that says “Let’s Start Casting!”
• Your Chromecast is now ready to cast. You can cast from your
favorite cast-enabled mobile app or cast a tab from the Chrome
browser on your computer.

• Install the Google Cast app from Chrome Browser by navigating
to chromecast.com/setup. Here you can choose to set up
Chromecast using your mobile device or using Windows.
Need Chrome? Download Chrome Browser now.
• Launch the Google Cast app to view Privacy and Terms. Click Accept.
• Select your Chromecast from list of device. Click Set Up.
