Office 365 is a cloud-based subscription service that allows users to access Microsoft Office applications online as well as additional services like Exchange Online for email, SharePoint Online for document storage and sharing, Lync Online for communications, and online meetings. The key benefits of Office 365 include having the latest version of Office, accessing files from any device, easy sharing and collaboration, and not needing to manage your own server infrastructure. It provides these services through a web-based control panel and works by assigning each client organization an accepted domain to access the hosted Exchange, SharePoint, Lync, and other services through Microsoft's data centers.
IT organizations must deliver innovative technology solutions in order to respond to accelerating business demands for new services. They must adapt to a rapidly evolving business landscape whilst delivering improvements in applications and services quickly enough to meet the expectations of their users and customers.
But how rapidly can they adapt and modernize their COBOL based applications? Presenters: Scot Nielsen, Snr Product Manager, COBOL and Renato Quedas, VP Solutions Marketing & Enablement

Introducing Office Web Apps as a Tool for Developing Content Rich ApplicationsRyan McIntyre
Office Web Apps was introduced with SharePoint 2010 as a service used to provide browser-based access to Office documents. Office Web Apps (OWA) 2013 modifies the service architecture significantly, enabling the exposure of document interactions through a browser to be customized and expanded within SharePoint as well as outside of SharePoint.
With this architecture change, we need to review the capabilities from a new perspective and question how we can best leverage this service. To start, we need to understand the new architecture changes. From there, how do we manage the health of OWA and apply updates? How do we leverage OWA to build additional capabilities into our applications? How do we expand OWA capabilities? What are the differences in OWA on-prem and OWA Office 365?
In this session, we'll be answering these questions and more. We'll look at the new 2013 architecture and understand how to deploy the service on-prem and manage it properly. We will then look at how to extend the service and take advantage of the new capabilities in both our SharePoint and non-SharePoint solutions. You'll leave the session with a deeper understanding of OWA capabilities, and ready to incorporate OWA into your solution architectures!
Real World – Rapid prototyping with Logic AppsBizTalk360
This integration Monday session will be a show and tell style session where Mike will present a short topic covering rapid prototyping using Logic Apps. We all know that integration projects tend to be challenging, a lot of time is spent on analysis and trying to understand how things will work. In the real world we still find that no matter how much analysis we do we never really know the full story until we try to wedge the square peg into the round hole. In this session Mike will talk about how he used Logic apps to help him elaborate the requirements for a project using a prototype built with Logic Apps and how some of the learnings from this prototype will save plenty of time later in the project.

An API is a set of routines, protocols, and tools that allow software programs to communicate with each other. APIs work by allowing developers to access public functions through documentation provided by API creators. The functions pass arguments to private functions that execute the necessary code to complete requests. APIs are useful because they allow functionality to be upgraded without code modifications, minimize changes when data structures change, provide common functionality, and are faster than system calls. APIs are important in cloud computing to integrate platforms and providers through service, application, infrastructure, and cross-platform APIs. Examples of widely used APIs include the Google Maps and Facebook Like APIs.

Practical Application of API-First in microservices developmentChavdar Baikov
Building complex applications using microservices-based architecture naturally involves a great amount of remote communication based on RESTful APIs. The REST APIs represent the contract of the microservice, with both external and internal stakeholders. Microservices, with poorly designed and unstable APIs, might pose a challenge for
the whole application stack, for both adoption and maintenance.
In this session, we will dig into the benefits of the API-First development approach, for designing stable, clean, and robust microservice APIs. We will showcase a practical example of how API-First development can be streamlined for developing and consuming Spring-based Java microservices, leveraging mostly free and open source technologies.

How to Build Front-End Web Apps that Scale - FutureJSPhil Leggetter
Developing large apps is difficult. Ensuring that code is consistent, well structured, tested, maintainable and has an architecture that encourages enhancement is essential. When it comes to large server-focused apps, solutions to this problem have been tried and tested. But, with the ongoing dramatic shift of functionality into the browser, how do you achieve this when building Front-End Web Apps?
In this talk we’ll cover the signs to watch out for as your HTML5 SPA grows and provide examples of some of the tooling types that can contribute-to - as well as ease - the growing pains. Finally, we’ll demonstrate how tooling can be used to support a set of conventions, practices and principles that enable a productive developer workflow where the first line of code is feature code, features can be developed in isolation, code conflicts are avoided by grouping assets by feature and features are composed into apps.
The demonstrations will use the BladeRunnerJS open source developer toolkit, but the concepts are widely applicable.

#RADC4L16: An API-First Archives Approach at NPRCamille Salas
This document discusses NPR's transition to a new digital archives system called Artemis 2.0. It took an API-first approach, developing the backend API first before building out the frontend. Key points discussed include developing a flexible data model, separating the frontend and backend codebases, using a proxy layer for business logic, and lessons learned around documentation, expectations, and migration challenges. The new system provides benefits like increased searchability, flexibility to adapt to growing needs, and more efficient metadata workflows.
One of the greatest challenges to developing an API is ensuring that your API lasts. After all, you don’t want to have to release and manage multiple versions of your API just because you weren’t expecting users to use it a certain way, or because you didn’t anticipate far enough down the roadmap. In this session, we’ll talk about the challenge of API Longevity, as well as ways to increase your API lifecycle including having a proper mindset, careful design, agile user experience and prototyping, best design practices including hypermedia, and the challenge of maintaining persistence.
